Fatalis Posted June 19, 2023 I'm beginning my journey of learning to use Ultimate Doom Builder, and I see a plethora of tutorials out there to help beginners. I'm not new to map editing in general, I've built maps for a variety of games over the years but every editor has it's own way of doing things and before I dive in head first I was curious if anyone who considers themselves a newer mapper has suggestions for tutorials that were particularly useful in learning how to use the tools needed to make the magic happen. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
PhoxFyre007 Posted June 19, 2023 DavidXNewton created a new series of map creation for his RAMP2023 compilation wad. I would check that out. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Wo0p Posted June 19, 2023 My journey began when I randomly stumbled over Chubzdoomer on youtube one day and I watched one of his wonderful tutorials which rekindled my love of map making and Doom as a whole. His tutorials are straight forward, not too long, easy to understand and easily indexed. Hope this helps, and welcome to the journey :) 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
Stabbey Posted June 19, 2023 Way way back when, I was just starting, I got a copy of "Tricks of the Doom Editing Guru's" (later re-released as "3D Game Alchemy" or something like that), which was very detailed on the basics and had lessons with sample WADs. The lessons often did it wrong, explaining and showing it looking wrong, explaining what caused it to look wrong, and how to fix it to make it look right . Those tomes eventually made their way here into this forum's tutorial sections: it's pretty much the same text: 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

If you have ever constructed maps for a truly 3D game with an editor of the Radiant variaty you know how intimidating that can be. Mapping for original DOOM is not like that. With Ultimare Doom Builder r40xx and Slade 3.2.3 you have everthing in an easy to use bundle. You did not mention which format you want to map, this may point you in the right direction. smeghammer Posted June 19, 2023 (edited) For slightly more complex stuff I tend to refer to Dragonfly's tutorials: https://www.dfdoom.com/tutorials/ Particularly, the portal tutorial is the clearest one I found - especially the sector portal section. I know it says GZDoom builder, but any that support UDMF or DiHF will be just fine (my weapon of choice is Eureka) Edited June 19, 2023 by smeghammer 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
