[Boom] The Settlements (idgames)

Sad to see you go! Here's a video of the first map. Considering how long it took to complete it, I'm unsure if I'll be playing the second, but this was nice 'n spicy.

I really really really liked those two levels. Just interesting and slick as all hell. I coulda happily spent another 2 hours exploring them. My only glitch was my inability to even look at the green key fight on the second map. Many many attempts resulted in my iddqding that fight, pulled off the last one flawlessly though, go figure. Ive been looking so forward to "A Continuous Tale." Thats next and from what I saw of the first 2 or 3 maps in my saveless test run, Im going to have a good time. Thanks for sharing these 2 adventures.

This is awesome! Have just finished Map 1 and I only died 3 times haha

Spoiler

(all due to my inability to Doom platform)

I'll finish these off when I get the chance, well done - really nice evolution of your mapping style from Liminal Doom :)

Glad you enjoy! This mapset in some ways sort of follow Liminal Doom aesthetics, but in a more surreal way. In any way, it's quite a different experience

Cool maps, mini cybers with slightly more health is a great idea, the new black guys are cool as well. Although it's a bit of shame that they were barely used throughout the mapset, they can be great for incidental combats.

The combat is pretty solid and crumpetsy, the green key fight of map02 is definitely my favourite. A really nice blend of pacifism/platforming/infighting and taking the opportunity to rocket roaming distracted viles. The use of vanilla textures/custom decorations is very good and fits into the overall cityscape settings. However I do admit that the constant texture misalignments are pretty off-putting for me, not sure if it's the results of unorthodox layout shapes or is intentional.

@Nefelibeta Thanks for playing! I knew the new enemy had potential for interesting combat scenarios, but it isn't used that much on purpose. It felt off to used him constantly through out the levels, so i decided to save him for special occasions.

Spoiler

It originally was used a lot more in map02, but i decided to remove every instance of it so it could have a special comeback on map03, where you may had forgotten that he exist up to that point.

Texture alignment its not my thing, sorry about that. Its just that im too lazy to look around and fix that sort of thing.

Great WAD, thanks for sharing. Very natural evolution from Liminal Doom, feels like the biggest growth for this WAD in comparison to that one is a notable increase in interconnected design (Map01 shows this almost right off the bat), rather than a mostly linear trek through a series of Strange Spaces. Love it.

Casual FDAs for all 3 maps, -dsdademo format and will need v0.26.2 to play back.

@Maribo Thank you for the demos! Was fun to watch you play through map03 on tyson mode for a bit. It takes guts to punch out the cyberdemon on that room.

Its also interesting how fast you moved though the maps. I thought it would end up affecting the experience but thankfully it didn't.

Glad you enjoy!

Well i decided to release this to idgames. There are some tiny changes that dont mean anything, so the maps are pretty much the same.

Thank you all for playing!

Finally got around to finishing this today. Map 2 is easily my favourite of the set. Map 3 was fantastic as well, I had to confront my arch nemesis Doom Platforming again but made it through!

Thanks for making, really enjoyed it!

Hello! I'm filling out the DoomWiki page for The Settlements. Can you please tell me which music tracks are used in the WAD? One from MAP04 is silent and one from MAP03 contains info in the MIDI itself, but what are the others? Judging by the first post, MAP01 uses original track by Ribbiks. Does it has any name?

@Nockson

01 - "arkeiv_ext.mid" by Ribbiks
02 - "Dreamstate" by CheesyMozarella
03 - "Inspiration" by Rami Moscowich, Bill Bowers and Axel Hufeland

TITLE - "voices_c.mid" by Ribbiks
INTER - Sadly i dont know the source of this one. I think its from an rpg but im not sure.
