Are 90's doom CD's copyrighted?

I want to make a compilation of maps from 90's doom CD's. I only have one issue.

Is doing this even legal?

I just want to make sure before I start this project.

Most of those were ripped from around the internet and were themselves not legal, so the correct place to look for permission would be from the original authors. Check if the WADs can be found on /idgames.

Most Doom CDs where shovelware with a bunch of maps from idgames. So they're not legal by itself lol

 

Even some "oficial" maps are from idgames (the legendary Sewers ad Betray from Xbox 360 Doom for example).

 

That said, I don't think that you will any legal isssue with that, but you should look the wads on idgames and look about author's permissions in the text files.
