[UDMF] "Stiff Steel"

Map Name: "Stiff Steel".

Map Format: UDMF.

IWAD: "Doom II: Hell On Earth".

Tested With: "GZDoom V4.10.0".

FreeLook/Jumping/Crouching: All of these are allowed and you may need to crouch in certain areas in a way to escape.

 

Description: On 14th December of 2021 there were started an very interesting UDMF community project about unusual application of Doom's fluids. Sadly, it was put on hold for too long and I guess that this project now is resting on the graveyard of DoomWorld's unfinished community projects. I didn't wanted my map to be there, so I compiled a standalone playable version that can be launched via one single WAD. Main quirk was all about liquids and their special powers and I hope that this map not that boring that it seems. Before compilation I "nerfed" few secrets (since even I had some difficulties to find them after so long), so they now are more "honest" to find. Notes: Most of liquids (if not all of them) has some special effects that can be seen below.

Spoiler

 

  • Water: It will heal you by 5 health per half second.
  • Blood: This one just looks cool and can make you go full berserk on enemies.
  • Sludge: Not only does it grant armor from nothing. If you are wearing Mega Armor, the sludge remembers the type and will mimic the damage reduction of the Mega armor, up to a maximum of 104%.
  • Slime: With that kind of fluid you gonna be immune to all incoming damage, but be sure that no one can kick you out from the very comfy'n'cozy bath.
  • Lava: May be boring, but it consistently chunk's the player's health by 10 per tic
  • FireBlu: If you want to have full-fledged stealthy Doom experience - then you might want to stand still for a bit in it.

 

Original story was about some abandoned UAC complex inside of volcano that now full of rusted steel and hidden Evil. Not sure if it still sounds, at least, OK.

A bit more difficult than your previous map I just played, but as enjoyable :)

The liquids idea is an interesting concept, though I think it's difficult to find them a real moment of shine and glory, maybe because they are either too useless or either too powerful
