OliveTree Posted July 3, 2023 (edited) The Ultimate Doom: https://steamcommunity.com/id/EtherBottle/recommended/2280 Summary: Quote DOOM is a deathless testament to its era. Bold and provocative in both its themes and its technical wizardry. A rollicking nightmare with thrilling combat punctuating every bloody moment. Doom II: https://steamcommunity.com/id/EtherBottle/recommended/2300 Summary: Quote Doom II is a gift to the fans, a refinement of the mechanics of its predecessor, and a true enigma of abstract level design. Doom 64: https://steamcommunity.com/id/EtherBottle/recommended/1148590/ Quote With tightly choreographed action and gorgeously moody lighting, DOOM 64 is a worthy culmination of the "classic DOOM" era, a vivid and extant blending of fear with triumph. Doom 2016: https://steamcommunity.com/id/EtherBottle/recommended/379720/ Summary: Quote Despite some tedium with its story, DOOM is a thrilling scripture of the past, remixed into forms bolder and purer than its component parts; the gold standard for reboots. I'll probably update this thread with the rest of my Doom series reviews whenever I write them Edited April 4, 2024 by OliveTree added review for doom 64 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
ARMCoder Posted July 3, 2023 Nice (and quite a large) review! My impression, after finishing the game in HMP, is that the maps become more and more interesting until "Titan's Realm" with the peak at "Lazarus Labs". Beyond that there's nothing really new or enticing apart from the bosses (the hell guards and the mama spider)... the battles just get harder with more monsters, at this point the two big map themes (tech and hell) begin to feel old and overused. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

Thanks for reading my 2016 review :> I agree fully with your summation here. I literally couldn't put it better myself (you can see that by my very long review trying to put it better myself, up above, lol). I updated the OP with a review of Doom II if you're interested. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
