Turbulent Posted July 3, 2023 (edited) I'm about due for a Doom 2 run, the levels have gotten a bit fuzzy to remember. I think for me that's when I decide to replay things in general. When do you replay the originals? Edited July 3, 2023 by Turbulent 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Manny84 Posted July 4, 2023 (edited) I actually played through vanilla Doom and Doom II recently for the first time... possibly ever? I played them a LOT when they first came out in the 90s, and have reinstalled them every now and then over the years to have a quick blast, but I'm fairly sure this was the first time I ever went from start to finish, every map, without cheats or skipping levels or just dropping the game midway through. It was the same with Quake and Duke3D. I just didn't finish games when I was younger. Edited July 4, 2023 by Manny84 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

Chow Yun Thin Posted July 4, 2023 I start playing them on their birthdays: Ultimate Doom on December 10th and Doom 2 on October 10th cause it's my birthday and I'll play if I want to. Most years that's the only Dooming I get. Sometimes I play them with a wrinkle added to it. Controller instead of M&K. -fast. Reduced ammo (12 for Shell box, 6 for non-dropped Shotguns, 3 for Rocket box, half for Cell ammo). I think this year I'll try Quake-style health decay. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
SovereignX9 Posted July 4, 2023 I replay Ultimate Doom often, probably once every 2 weeks. Usually Episode 1, but will replay episode 2 and 3 maybe once a month or so. Epsiode 4 once every couple months. I've played Knee Deep In The Dead so many times I can be on auto-pilot 80% of the time during playing it, while listening to a podcast or youtube video, and do fairly well while still enjoying it, it just never really gets old for me. Doom 2, not so much. Once I get to map 12 I just kinda zone out, idk. I really enjoy Doom 2's early levels, later on not so much. I replay Final Doom more frequently than I do Doom 2. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
kalensar Posted July 4, 2023 Lately? Doom 2 Almost everyday. 🤣 Learning mostly non-exploit speedruns. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
volleyvalley Posted July 5, 2023 About every month or so, I boot up TNT: Evilution every time I get an itch for moody IWAD levels. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
BeachThunder Posted July 5, 2023 Properly playing through? Practically never. I've fully played through Ultimate Doom twice, and Doom II once. So, I guess that's a rate of about once or twice every few decades. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
TasAcri Posted July 5, 2023 (edited) Whenever i find an interesting mod that changes things a bit. Like how i recently replayed them with an HD textures mod. Nowadays i'm replaying DOOM 1 and 2 using a Relighting + flashlight + Parallax textures mod. With the "right" settings it makes both games look much more modern but also very authentic at the same time. Feels like how the original DOOM would look if it was released today as a "retro" Indy game (pixelly, low-res graphics, fancy lighting effects). When the voxel mod gets completed for both DOOM 1 and 2 and released for free, it will be another reason to replay the games for me. Azuris Posted July 5, 2023 (edited) Doom 1 nearly once a Year. Single Episodes multiple Times. Doom 2 not so often, as it lacks the Episodes, it somehow feels more like an Marathon. It is also very brownish compared to the first, so it gets visually boring after a while. Have to replay Tnt, has more variety in that case Level 8 sucks. Edit: Overthinking it, single Episodes mutliple times, sometimes within a few Weeks the whole Game a couple Times with it, sometimes a break of Months. As it is so simple to jump in and out. TheSlipgateStudios Posted July 6, 2023 Probably once a year each, even though Doom 2 a little less than that. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
