NinjaDelphox Posted July 16, 2023 (edited) Made these 4 maps during this last week while I wasn't very motivated to work on any of my other projects or really do anything at all :) Was nice to be able to do something at least, each of these maps should only take about 10 minutes at most, and aren't very hard. This is also probably the only time I'll ever do something this vanilla lol, I only changed the music for the maps and the titlepic/interpic. The map visuals I was kinda inspired loosely by the Master Levels and a bit of Doom II. JonExMachina Posted July 16, 2023 Hmm, those are some yummy screenshots. I'll definitely be playing this later tonight. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
mancubian_candidate Posted July 16, 2023 Have played partially through Map 1 and have gotten my ass kicked. Will be back :) 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
JonExMachina Posted July 17, 2023 Okay, that one kicked my ass kicked hard. First map was alright except for the lava encounter, which I definitely wasn't prepared for (the reveal was really surprising and took me a moment to understand what had just happened). Second one was much easier overall, but the red key encounter took a few tries to get through. Third map was pretty okay to go through until the last encounter, which was as impressive as it was mean. Took me a lot of tries. Fourth map was just hellish for the most part, and I loved it. I've never been more glad to find an invulnerability sphere. The secrets overall were pretty good, and I liked how most of the big encounters were more combat puzzles than pure run and gun. I also really liked the level design as a whole, each map being very distinguishable from the others and having memorable layouts. Now, to the stuff I didn't really like: The lava area in the first map could've used an extra rad suit or two, as the hecticness of the encounter makes it really hard not to get some of them by accident, pretty much locking the player in an unwinnable state depending on how low their health is by the end of the fight. Also, the third map's secret seems not to be reachable after the floor fully lowers, as there seems to be no way to either raise a platform or lower either of its entrances. And that's it. I really enjoyed everything else. I did run into a bug in the fourth map: Somehow I skipped the linedef to the final encounter, which dropped me into a HOM hell that killed me in the blink of an eye. :P I tried to reproduce it a few times but wasn't successful, all I remember is that I had missed a single Mancubus in the previous room, and I wasn't running nearly fast enough to do a linedef skip. Finally, what a kickass music choice. Metal Shark Player, Rainy Turtloid, Shield Sheldon and Squid Adler. I was almost expecting Blaze Heatnix for the final map, as the songs were sticking to X6, but Squid Adler was an excellent choice (even better than BH, to be honest, which kinda gets a bit tiresome after a while). The titlepic and interpic were really... something. :P Great stuff, friend. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

The lack of radsuits in Map 01 was mostly there to make it harder to get 100% on the revisits, but I understand the complaint. I'll see if double up the lines will help with preventing that skip in Map 04 as well. Also yeah I love X5 and 6, they're my favorite MM games (X6 being #1 and X5 #2), I run nearly every MM game (X1 - 6, Z1 - 4, ZX/ZXA, some classic ones like 3 and R&F), so I tend to use Mega Man music a ton in all of my wads. I really want to use Adler in a higher effort map because the song is just amazing. The titlepic and interpic were memes I came up with like 3 seconds before posting this because I've been playing DS2 and got a PS2 Disc of X7 and X8 a few days ago lol. I'm thinking about maybe extending this for a few more maps since they didn't take me long to make, and I'm getting back into the swing of working on stuff more regularly now. 3 Quote Share this post Link to post

What other maps have you published? I'd love to play them. X2 is my favorite, and no MM song will ever top Crystal Snail's stage (Wire Sponge is a close second — yeah, I like weird proggy songs), but I'll always have a ton admiration for well chosen MM music in Doom maps, and you really hit it out of the park with your choices. Dark Souls 2 is amazing and I'll die on that hill. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
LadyMistDragon Posted July 17, 2023 (edited) Decided to play the first map! The title pics were hilarious. Edit: Tried the other ones out. They're definitely better but harder than I want to bother with right now. Edited July 18, 2023 by LadyMistDragon 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

DS2 is a lot of fun and nowhere near as bad as people think (The DLC bosses are fire), but has a lot of problems when it comes to the basic gameplay like the rollout window being absurdly long after a swing. As for stuff I've made: My first 4 published maps were Maps 05, 16, 32, and 29 of Project Unity. Map 05 and 29 got a remaster in Project Unity Redux. (Map 16 received the same thing in a wad mentioned later) I made half the maps in both 100 and 200 Line Massacre with @Arsinikk And my biggest and most recent project, Corruption just got put up on idgames two weeks ago. This has the remake of Project Unity Map 16 in it, and is a 35 Map megawad. Also have 2 projects in the works currently, one is mostly done and should be out relatively soon, and the other is a spinoff of Corruption still early on in development. JonExMachina Posted July 18, 2023 Yup, I'm definitely playing all of that. Thank you for sharing! 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
NinjaDelphox Posted July 27, 2023 Ok so I've given a small update to the WAD, I've added my first ever map entirely unedited since this is probably the only project of mine where it'd fit like that lol, and also added an end map, along with title screen and intermission midis. I'll probably be putting this up on idgames soon. Was fun to make these simple maps, and thanks to everyone who played them :) Download in OP. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
TheShep Posted July 27, 2023 Hey just wanted to say this sounds p fun. I'll likely play it soon. Also nice lil history on your mapping endeavors; should be trying a lot of that soon too. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
NinjaDelphox Posted August 14, 2023 It's finally up on idgames! https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/levels/doom2/Ports/m-o/ninjas_thing Thank you to everyone who has played it! I'm hoping to get more projects done by the end of this year, but I'm gonna have to take 2 months+ off of doing basically anything, I have elbow surgery tomorrow for my dominant arm so I won't be very productive mapping wise with the opposite arm lol. Also put the idgames link in the OP as well, have fun playing! 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Arsinikk Posted August 14, 2023 These maps are good. Y'all should play them. I would really like to see this wad expanded into a larger set personally :) 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
