I saw a thread where the guy went ahead and added "both" and "neither" options, which I believe is unfair. TNT or Plutonia. One or the other.

OP made poll results non-public so that the TNT fans wouldn't get embarrassed publicly.

(I mean, TNT is good and all, but TNT over Plutonia?)

Me personally TNT. I love the dark moody atmospheres the techbases have. The maps feel like an actual place and its fun to imagine the uses UAC had with these locations. Also it has new custom midis, which are still frequently used to this day because of how awesome they are. Although I love Ploutonia's challenge aspect and I respect it for pioneering the wads we know and love today. I still choose TNT's adventure and atmosphere over Plutonia.

Now, don't get me wrong, TNT does have a good soundtrack, and there were some good first levels. However, I think that Plutonia is better than TNT regarding the levels themselves.

The TNT Team did do a good job on most of their levels, though, but it's still stupid how Id tried to monetize off of the project.

I wouldn't have it any other way. Had they not decided to make TNT part of an official Doom sequel, I wouldn't have had the same memories of it, hell I may have never played it at all. Both TNT and Plutonia are deserving of being part of an official Doom game.

I find TNT more interesting in its setting/atmosphere, but is let down by lack of polish and jank. So Plutonia wins for me.

Although if you were to ask me about their sequels (Plutonia 2, PRCP etc. vs Revilution and Devilution), then I am definitely going with TNT's sequels.

Plutonia always has given me a much greater challenge, and everything just seems more visually distinctive from the base Doom 2 IWAD. TNT has always struck me with a style that's in line with any Doom 2 level, to the point where sometimes I'll mix the two up or be surprised when I randomly idclev to a map. Will say, though -- in spite of how exploitably short it is, Wormhole will always have my heart as one of my favorite Doom maps.

Both.

Me too. Although I don't play them much but I actually likes both of them and I never differentiated between them. Both looks equal to me.

They cannot really be compared. Plutonia is more consistent, but the high end of TNT is somewhat better than Plutonia while the low end is quite a bit worse.

If I had to go for level quality I'd choose Duke Nukem 3D! :D

I think TNT is way harder than Plutonia. . . but only because if I try to play more than ten TNT maps in a short period of time I enter a coma.

The highs are certainly high, but they’re too far and in-between and all of the hitscan hell and imp abuse is just so freaking dull.

The topic was discussed to death over the three decades. So instead of going over the gameplay and aesthetics and what not yet again, I'll cast TNT into the fire solely due to the fact that it was originally meant to be a free release, and then it wasn't.

TNT! It was the first non-shareware Doom I played, so have a massive soft spot for it.

I can relate. After completing Doom 2 then Doom 1, TNT and Plutonia are the very first WADs I ever played when I first got ZDoom port. And thus my Doom journey started afterwards. So both Plutonia and TNT has a special place in my heart.

If we only compare the iwads themselves then Plutonia is obviously a better wad than TNT, however if we consider what both of them have inspired, then we must take into account the fact that TNT3 is obviously better than Plutonia 2. Seems like a draw overall.

TNT.

Plutonia has the ugliest textures I ever seen. Also, not fun to play the first time.

you say that like tnt isn't chock-full of hideous textures

I look at it this way: if TNT hadn't been picked up by id Software, most people wouldn't care much about it nowadays and it be considered more of a cumbersome relic of the past than mandatory playing for any newcomers to classic Doom (like Team TNT's very own Icarus: Alien Vanguard from the same year). Plutonia on the other hand would have left its mark in the community as one of the most significant Doom mods of all time as a free release just as much, similar to Alien Vendetta. It just did so much more for Doomdom overall and stood the test of time far better.
