Dreamskull Posted September 29, 2023 (edited) Wasnt Twitter a cesspool before Musk came along? Last I checked they were literally trying to govern everything using social media. It was seemingly a large club with a particular bent that gave cover for its factionalism. Its influence is greatly displaced now, isnt it? Does anyone know what all that money they got for it is being used for? It would be good to know. It certainly wasnt cheap to buy. Twitter wasn't great before Musk took over. I stopped visiting Twitter for the sake of my mental health before he bought it and made it his personal fiefdom. I haven't been back since, but from what I've seen second-hand, it is so much much worse now. Originally one of the problems with Twitter is how its very format and design encouraged thoughtless "hot takes" and other forms of bad-faith engagement between users. Even if you avoided interacting with other users, Twitter had a way of getting its hooks into you so that you'd be addicted to doomscrolling. But now imagine all that, *plus* all sorts of nasty assholes having the complete run of the place with no real consequences. You can even post child abuse material and Lord Musk will restore your account if he likes you enough. Edited September 29, 2023 by NoXion 5 Quote Share this post Link to post
Chesspionage Posted September 29, 2023 It's quite amusing that every time you see an 'X' post being used on TV at the moment the producers now write "formerly known as Twitter" immediately after it. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

I would just keep calling it Twitter out of spite. One of our major telecommunications providers, Telecom (creative), renamed themselves Spark nearly 10 years ago and some people still call them Telecom. Hell even I still say it sometimes and I am in IT. Name changes for big brands just do not go well. 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
siliconn Posted September 29, 2023 (edited) Very funny when you see "X Formerly known as Twitter" or "X/Twitter" on TV, but this isn't the first time he's tried to rename something "X" If i remember exactly, him trying to rebrand PayPal to "X" was basically what got him fired from paypal. I don't know if he'll get as lucky as the Alex Jones case (basically Alex's lawyers just gave him the whole 2 years worth of data on Alex's cell phone and just didn't claw it back) but maybe Elon's lawyers will be just as stupid, it's not out of the realm of possibility 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

mrthejoshmon Posted October 18, 2023 (edited) Ah yes, a minimum subscription service, "to fight spam" you say? Does spam mean "anyone not paying you" by chance? Really makes you think, except it doesn't because it's Twitter. There is no thinking involved. Edited October 18, 2023 by mrthejoshmon 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
OniriA Posted October 18, 2023 (edited) Oh the classic "Fuck you, pay me" thing. Everytime I read about this twitter/x thing, I get thankful for not having ever used twitter. Edited October 18, 2023 by OniriA 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Lila Feuer Posted October 18, 2023 Moved to Tumblr for the first time nearly two years ago when it stopped being an overly sensitive censorship bitch and haven't regretted it. I used twatter from August 2016 to 2021 and then started to sharply fall off last year and now I've essentially abandoned mine. I really only used it for the art and memes and nsfw content, but you can get most of that on Tumblr and it seems to be the norm as opposed to bullshit discourse, and I unfollowed literally half my follows on twatter when I realized I could just look at their stuff unimpeded on pixiv, a site I already use extensively so that solves most if not all of my artist issues. Screw musky with a sandbox tree. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
