Changing instruments used in MIDI files

Recommended Posts

Hi. I'm creating my first map pack, and i'm not too skilled with composing music or just midi files in general. i have a specific song i want to use in a level, but it doesn't use the doom instruments. is there any steps i could take to fix this? thank you in advance.

What do you mean it doesn't use the Doom instruments? Is it a midi file? Are you playing it through Windows' MIDI, OPL emulation, a soundfont, something else?

It would help if you posted the song in question.

I'm guessing this would be a .mid file, yes?

if it IS a .mid file, it's likely that your system's soundfonts just sound (slightly) different. I know you were able to change this on Win9x, as well as on modern systems. Here's a link to a StackExchange post about changing your midi wavetable (the set of instruments) on Windows 10. I hope that helps a bit!

What you mean with this?

I think that you need to explain better that. :/
