Scuba Steve Posted July 27, 2023 We're just a few weeks away from this year's Quakecon and, apparently, a lot of you knuckleheads are attending. There's no showroom this year, but it sounds like it's going to be a sizeable number of Doomworld members at the event. So who's going? 5 Quote Share this post Link to post
OpenRift Posted July 27, 2023 I WISH I could go to something like that. I'll certainly be watching the livestream if they have one. The Quake II rumors certainly have my attention. 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
D4NUK1 Posted July 27, 2023 I'll join from Livestreaming or Quake in Home like last year, hopefully my home will get Internet to get some frags across Quakes and Doom games. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
7Mahonin Posted July 27, 2023 (edited) I’m sitting out this year as far as taking the trip and whatnot, but will be attending in a more virtual way as much as I can. Wasn’t really impressed with the last few QCs and if this one is just another Bethesda showcase with some Id trivia thrown in then I’ll know that’s how it will be from here on out. Also wish they did have the showroom and whatnot like they used to. I’m hoping it will be awesome and if it isn’t just BethesdaCon, I’ll go next year.  Hope everyone who does attend get to meet each other and make some cool memories from it, and even more hopeful something exciting will be announced or shown, even if it is something they don’t show to the public outside of QC right away (like they did with 2016 doom). esselfortium Posted July 27, 2023 I'll be there! QC2019 was a great time, getting to hang out with Doom friends in person was a lot of fun. 4 Quote Share this post Link to post
Midway64 Posted July 27, 2023 Just gonna join the Quakecon in Home livestream... if there is one. Â The Quake II rumors better be true. The vanilla executable is fairly broken in modern systems. Hell even GLQuake has better compatibility with Windows 11. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Bobby :D Posted July 27, 2023 (edited) This thread is secretly a ploy for Scuba Steve to find more bunk mates to split his hotel room bill. Edited July 27, 2023 by Bobby "J 15 Quote Share this post Link to post
Caffeine Freak Posted July 27, 2023 I'll be there. 🤘 Got my ticket booked and will be attending the BYOC for the first time in my life. Psyched. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
princetontiger Posted July 27, 2023 I'd love to make it, but I live in Hawaii. Maybe some other time... 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

ZELLLOOO Posted July 27, 2023 I probably won't be going but I'd be down to go out to eat with peeps at local-ish places to hang out, something like Hard Eight BBQ up the road in Coppell would be perfect. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Scuba Steve Posted July 27, 2023 A significant chunk of the Doomworld crew are in rows H and I. 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
Mr. Freeze Posted July 27, 2023 Now that I'm in Arizona, I'd love to make the trip but this year it isn't feasible. Hoping to see you folks at QC2024. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

From what I recall it works fine through Proton but I don't know why you'd want to play vanilla Quake 2 on a modern system when it doesn't support high resolution displays. Â I mean it still should display nicely on a high resolution screens and most monitors should have the option to use the correct aspect ratio even if the game doesn't have support for widescreen resolutions. There is even nice bonus of natural blurriness added by displaying lower resolution game on a higher resolution screen that totally makes the game look better! Â But seriously, whole Quake series deserves officially same kind of love that the Doom games have gotten recently. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

ReaperAA Posted July 28, 2023 Will definitely look forward towards the livestream.... if only for the hope of a new game from id and a possible Quake 2 remaster.  11 hours ago, ValveMercenary said: It's a strange niche I have when it comes to classic shooters, always Vanilla ports.  Yamagi Quake 2 is a pretty faithful source port. Both gameplay wise and even graphics wise. Would definitely recommend that over using vanilla exe. There is also the unofficial 3.24 patch for Quake 2, which is also basically a source port and one that might even more "pure-er" than Yamagi? Idk, as I have not tried it myself. If Yamagi is too advanced for you, you can try 3.24 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
pavera Posted July 28, 2023 I will be there! My seat is I-124 if anyone wants to come over and say hi 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Agent Strange Posted July 28, 2023 I was planning to go but decided not to after learning it would be a big LAN party. Nothing wrong with LAN parties but I want my first QuakeCon to be one that has all the bells and whistles. Probably wouldn't have been able to afford the trip either way. I'll try next year. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
skillsaw Posted July 28, 2023 I'll be making the trip - looking forward to finally meeting everyone! My seat in the BYOC is H-99. 3 Quote Share this post Link to post

ZeMystic Posted July 28, 2023 Definitely won't be able to make the trip this year but I do plan on going next time :) I'll try to catch the livestream when I'm free!  Have fun at QC23' y'all! 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
LadyMistDragon Posted July 29, 2023 I'm not going if I have to BYOC for deathmatch because that's just not something I'm into doing for a remotely prolonged period of time. Otherwise, I'd be there in a shot! 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Eurisko Posted July 30, 2023 I’m in the UK but there was an event in London in 2019 and I was hoping for that again but I don’t believe there is one. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

D4NUK1 Posted August 2, 2023 So, there's a Quakecon sale in Steam rigth now:https://store.steampowered.com/developer/bethesda/sale/quakecon2023 Oddly enougth, there is not sale for Quake II, what this should mean? Maybe a remaster in the Quake 4 engine perhaps? 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
