What track from Doom annoys you the most?

In general Doom OST is absolutely awesome. Bobby Prince is a genius. But... there are some exceptions.

For me, it's Hiding the Secrets. This track drives me crazy. It's the main reason why I don't want to play the Military Base map.
'Cause since you start this map.... it goes TUN-DUN TUN-DUN-DUN, DUN-DUN-DUN DUN-DUUUUN-DUN... and it sounds like pure insanity. When I play Military Base, I have feeling that I'm loosing my mind.
But there's also a bright side. Because of this track, I just want to complete this level as fast as possible :D

Does any of Doom OST evoke similar feelings in you? Or is there any that you dislike the most?

Shawn's Got the Shotgun - I think it's starts good, it has a suspenseful build up, but it doesn't hold up, it's too slow and boring (it's also too loud). I prefer the tracks with a faster rhythm that matches the dynamic action, Hiding the Secrets being a good example of that, i think that track is awesome.

e2m4, They Are Going To Get You.

I compose music and this pisses me off to no end, especially later in the song when there are these nasty ass "harmonies" that make no musical sense and don't sound good. The worst part in that when I did my first playthrough on the Ultimate Doom, (on the xbox one for some reason...) it took me almost a goddamn hour to complete the map, and my ear drums were constantly being assaulted by shitty pizzicato and dumbass choir sounds. This angered me to no end and drove me batshit crazy. At least the first fifth of the song is tolerable to an extent. The whole song just sounds like it was made by a toddler, though.

The thing is, almost every other MIDI in Ultimate DOOM is really, really good in my opinion. Untitled, I Sawed the Demons, Deep Into the Code, Signs of Evil etc. Please tell me that someone agrees because I am willing to die on this hill.

Also, e1m7's music got really annoying on my first playthrough because I took like 30 minutes to complete the level, but it's nowhere near as bad as e2m4 because it has a decent bassline, it's just kinda basic.

Agree, and it's a shame since E2M4 is probably my favorite Doom 1 map. If it were up to me I'd swap the music with E3M5 since that level is a meandering chore but Demons on the Prey is pretty decent.

Aww.... I really like Hiding the Secrets. Though it's pretty much a complete rip-off of We Die Young by Alice in Chains with the lead melody switched out for an original one so that probably has something to do with it

Doom 2 Title Music and it's no contest because it is superb at making OPL banks or soundfonts sound like shit.

as far as vanilla IWADS go, both of the first level tracks tend to become annoying to me after a while, I also agree with Dasho that the title music for Doom 2 sounds bad

as far as custom PWADS go, the E1M8 track from DTWID's soundtrack is NOT BAD AT ALL, but something about it makes me just... feel awful, like a sort of "negative aura" type effect, not in a paranormal way, ofcourse, but... I don't know, I can't explain it...

D_RUNNIN aside, In the Dark is obnoxiously boring, dull and awful, not to mention that in OPL mode it sounds like a bunch of farts directly taken from the Sega 32x port of Doom. It makes every map feel worse (and MAP12/24 are themselves one of the worst of the original Doom II IMO).

I don't agree with MAP24 being one of the worst maps, but I will say that In The Dark isn't one of my favorite tracks.

Running From Evil is the bane of my existence, though.

At this point it is cliché to hate on D_RUNNIN because mappers have to deal with it from default just like with STARTAN, but that's why I don't hate it that much, At Doom's gate does not give the same feelings though, but it may make you feel like playing a 1994 map.

If there was a poll, Running From Evil would win by a landslide - not because it's bad - but simply because anyone whose been playing custom Doom WADs or making their own maps for over a year is well and truly sick of hearing it. It's a great shame, but understandable beyond belief.

Countdown to Death

I agree on that one. It's not annoying or bad for me, but it's so boring

A-ha, now we know who's responsible for this! :D

I really like this one. E2M6 more so, but I like the feeling it conveys - something is really wrong. Reality slips, walls made of flesh. The water machine spews bile at you, and then cackles at you. It is an element of horror in a game mostly about feeling powerful and shooting demons.

You know what, I should make a unconventional map using this music.

Another one here to defend “They are going to get you” it works as designed, slow and feels off, just like the map it plays in.

+1 for liking this track, my only complaint is that it's a little on the quiet side.

I’m surprised such boring, droning, headache-inducing tunes aren’t at the top of the list. (Seriously - Hiding the Secrets??

As I said, this track just drives me crazy. I don't think that it's bad or boring or something like this.
We all have different taste in music and replies here confirm just that :)

D_E2M3 aka the intermission music for Doom 1 is by far the worst track for any level in commercial Doom. I don't know what they were thinking. It works fine for its intended purpose but used as an actual soundtrack this track will kill the atmosphere in any map stone dead. This track is the reason E2M3 is the worst map in Doom 1 and it should never be used for any map ever again. No matter how bad your map is, it deserves better than this.

In Doom II "The Demon's Dead" is the worst track overall; while the melody itself is fine, played over and over at this drunken, delirious pace quickly turns it into some kind of a demonic drone that makes you feel like you're trapped in some kind of drug-induced nightmare (and not the memorable kind like in Max Payne).

For Doom 1, I think it'd be Waltz of the Demons. That xylophone-piccolo drives me mad, not to mention it's used in the worst levels imaginable.
For Doom 2, It would be Running from Evil. I can't stand it anymore. Mapping has ruined it for me to the point that I put a custom D_RUNNIN replacement in every texture pack WAD I use.

honestly i'll be real, most of them. no shade to Bobby Prince but his Doom score is maddening in its repetitiveness. i used to not mind it but now i just turn the music off in the vanilla campaign because by god if i hear the same few bars again i will rip the FM chip out and eat it. i know Bobby is capable of making music that doesn't wear down my brain, the Duke2 OST lives in my head daily, but i guess when he's not directly ripping off Megadeth then his stuff is just not for me. D_STALKS is still kinda comfy though

more on topic though, i guess my most beloathed ones would have to be Dark Halls and Countdown to Death. i would add In The Dark to the list but i have a love hate relationship with it similarly to Duke3D's DETHTOLL. it's so mind numbing it zones me out into a state of somewhat enjoying it. that and map06 has my favorite red door track of death that i always look forward to pressing <3

There aren't any that I outright dislike. One's I've heard way too many times, sure, but I can still jam to it in the right map, time and place.

From doom 2:

Message of the arch-vile

In the dark

Adrian's sleep (and so I am listening to it)

Everything else it's just alright at the very least I guess

Dave D Taylor Blues, more specifically on "Inmost Dens".

An old bug fixed by most sourceports/ports was that the final note of the midi would hang forever, it was the absolute worst and it tainted my view of the track forever.
