jmpt16 Posted August 7, 2023 Just checking to see if people use the standard Shotgun in Doom 2 or if you stick to the SSG permanently. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
RataUnderground Posted August 7, 2023 Yes. Because changing weapons, and therefore pace, is satisfying and fun. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

The standard Shotgun is still a great long-range weapon so that's the main reason to continue using it even after picking up an SSG. On casual play that's one reason same for me. Also, sometimes I use it to kill monsters that are on a far place, like sniping. Sometimes, for no real reason :D Edited August 8, 2023 by Yousuf Anik 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Codename_Delta Posted August 7, 2023 I use it on fodder, better to not be wasteful. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Mr Masker Posted August 7, 2023 Nah, why would I use a gun that isn't SUPER!? If the standard shotgun is SOOO good, then why didn't they call it SUPER? Checkmate, lame shotgunners... But really though I mainly just use the Chaingun for long ranged stuff, and I just find the super shotgun more satisfying to use. The regular shotgun does its job, but after getting other weapons I just find it not as fun to use, except maybe in Doom 1 mapsets. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Async Unicorn Posted August 7, 2023 Why not? I'm saving ammo, when I need to kill just one imp, for example, it's useful. Well, actually, I use all weapons in the game, but it also depends on the map itself. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Stupid Bunny Posted August 7, 2023 (edited) 37 minutes ago, Codename_Delta said: I use it on fodder, better to not be wasteful. Not only is it less wasteful, it’s arguably more effective sometimes because the extremely long reload time of the SSG can give all those nasty shotgunners lots of time to poke holes in you, where that nice pump action shotty can chug out under a shell a second and still has enough spread and volume to cut those baldies down en masse Edited August 7, 2023 by Stupid Bunny 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Korni27 Posted August 7, 2023 only if I got no chaingun, or clip ammo, for sniping 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
No-Man Baugh Posted August 7, 2023 As much as I would love to switch betweem the shotgun and ssg for ammo conservation, the time it takes to switch between weapons is just too long for me in the heat of the moment 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Nixx Posted August 7, 2023 (edited) Yes, I use shotgun if weak enemies are partially protected by an obstacle (a small wall for example), it is more optimized thanks to horizontal dispersion only, as well as in other situations where horizontal dispersion gives an advantage or to kill weak enemies (imp and hitscanner) Edited August 7, 2023 by Nixx 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Astar Posted August 7, 2023 You don't have to shoot one imp with a SSG, it's just a waste of ammo. So, yeah 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Classic SSG Enjoyer Posted August 7, 2023 I just use regular shotgun for sniping enemies and if I am dealing with one hitscanner (execpt chaingunner) or an imp at a time coz killing one imp/seargent/zombiman with SSG is waste of precious shells. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
baja blast rd. Posted August 7, 2023 Oh hey another one of these threads. Same answer as usual: Rarely, because in most cases worrying about 'wasting' an extra shell or two is actually the big waste -- of attention and mental resources better spent on being more effective at something that matters a lot more. 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
tornado potato Posted August 7, 2023 I switch sometimes when I get all "no let's not waste extra shells" but then this logic is usually immediately proved wrong because in general I still need to use more than one shot to kill targets. Still I feel like it has its place in a fights that call for a faster firing rate. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Egg Boy Posted August 7, 2023 I just like how the SG feels, sometimes I switch to using it if there are a lot of lower tiers around just because I find it fun to use. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Jayextee Posted August 7, 2023 Are we getting this topic weekly now? I'd better keep up. Anywho, regular shotty has a better sound for my delicate autistic ears. So, yes, I use it more as a general-purpose popcorn-devouring weapon. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Individualised Posted August 7, 2023 Don't remember if I participated in the last iteration of this topic but they have different uses for me. Shotgun is useful for long-range sniping, super shotgun is useful for close range combat where you don't have to be as accurate. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Bri0che Posted August 7, 2023 Once SSG is obtained, the shotgun is really only better for mid-range sniping to me. It also may be interesting to use the shotgun instead of the SSG because of ammo starvation, but it is honestly a rare occurrence in Doom as said somewhere above, this is an action FPS after all. In conclusion SSG is way more powerful but a bit less precise than the shotgun. Plus may I remind that the SSG spread is vertical AND horizontal while the shotgun spread is only horizontal, when you know that I think you have a better use of the two weapons. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Panzermann11 Posted August 8, 2023 (edited) Yes. I use the shotgun mainly for long-range encounters, super shotgun for medium and close-range combat. Edited August 8, 2023 by Panzermann11 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
G19Doom Posted August 8, 2023 (edited) They both can do the same job as the other with pros and cons, so I just use whatever I happen to switch to. I don’t give it any extra complex thought. Edited August 8, 2023 by G19Doom 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
NullTheShadow Posted August 10, 2023 The regular shotgun is better for long range and it saves ammo when fighting zombiemans and shotgunners and other really weak enemies which can die in one shot so one shell saved. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
