British; ZED.

The name of the letter is ZED. Just like the name of the letter 'H' is AITCH.(with a silent H ironically) [unless you are Hyacinth Bucket...]

It can be pronounced ZEE(BRA), ZZZ(OO), 'TS' as in PIZZA. or ZE(BRA).

Well, as everything it is more complicated XP

Z is taken out late into the latin Alphabet from the Greek, with Y and K.

Y is often called Ypsilon or Greek I in other Languages

W is some germanic Invention, as it is just two V, guess they needed a Way to show the Difference of V and how it was spelled back then.

V is called Uve in most romance Languages, because it could be V or U in their Parent Language Latin, depending on what Place it was standing.

Similiar to how C can be hard, as in Caca of soft, as in Cielo.

J is an Evolution from I, for a similiar Reason.

So, there is also X from the Greek, but i think it was adopted very early, as there are nativ latin Words as Conexio.

So Z, some use it like an sharp S, some similiar as an TS would make an Sound.

Zee is meant to go along with the alphabet rhyme of "ee" sounds throughout.

"zed", so "jee-zed-doom" for "gzdoom" :P

Jee-ZEE-doom

Even though YT captions thought the person said cheesy doom.

We should go the way of the Jeep, and call GZDoom "Jeez-Doom".

Spoiler

(For those who need context, the General Purpose vehicle (or "GP") was corrupted into "Gee-p", or just 'Jeep' nowadays.

I pronounce it either way, however if I'm just saying the letter's name, then it's mostly Zed, but when I'm pronouncing it in some acronym, then I usually use Zee, because it's faster to pronounce it for me. As for GZDoom, I just say "Jesus Doom".

Even though "Zed" is an extremely goofy sounding word, perhaps what you'd call some little alien creature comin down for a visit - it's really useful for phone calls. C and ZEE sound identical in ultra-bitcrushed phone quality, so having a distinct way to say Z is very useful.

GeeZedDoom sounds even more painfully stupid and mushmouthed than GeeZeeDoom, but to be real for a sec, nearly every Doom port being a cluster of 2-4 letters followed by "Doom" was always really unwieldy no matter which specific port we're referring to. "ZDoom" is just so clean cut of a name by comparison. it's crazy to think there was a time when just one measly extra letter was enough!!

(lol)

I say Zee because I'm a patriotic American and anything foreign is fucking stupid and wrong, clearly

Ok, it just sounds odd in a North American accent so I'd never consider saying that.

I usually just swap between using both of them. For example: I say G-Zee-Doom but I pronounce ZDL as Zed-D-L. I guess it's more on what feels right to me but there's also a bit of schooling involved in this as well due to my school teaching me only the Zed pronunciation. So I'm pretty comfortable with using that most of the time.

Let me go on a tiny rant:

Even if Zed sounds more goofier than Zee. I somewhat prefer it because Zed, even if it may be a bit weird sounding for anyone who hasn't used it, atleast can't be confused for any other letter meanwhile Zee has 2 letters which are there to confuse you. The G and as Doomkid mentioned, C. ALSO ALSO the sound made by Jee/Ji is pretty similar to Zee. This is there just to cause ridiculously unnecessary confusions in a place where there shouldn't have needed to be unnecessary confusions. This is why I think Zed is a tiny bit better compared to Zee.

I'm Croatian so Z is just Z, with no wovels. It's nice, having each letter be pronounced the same way with no insane logic like English language.

Zee. Even though I'm a Canadian, I always stuck with Zee. Zed just never felt right to me.

I remember some show from when I was a kid having to awkwardly change the alphabet song just so it would rhyme.

"Q, R, S, T, U, V- look up ahead!

W, X, Y, Zed!"

Nooo...

Thanks for using Zee.

Have a good day.

In Russia, we pronounce 'z' as z + short 'a' or 'æ', so it sounds like GZæDoom

I was about to say how the heck do you say æ

But now, short a?

Like ah?

Or augh?

Gzahdoom

Zed on its own but that's what they teach around here and you'll almost never have to spell it like that in a normal word. I know stuff like GZDoom make it weirder to spell but I just call it ZDoom anyway and that one sounds fine with either zee or zed.
