[Community Project] VANITY

I found a midi for my map! It's a midi rendition of a track from Phantasy Star Online (never played it, but the midi fit so I picked it).

 

Still working on my map, doing a lot of difficulty tweaking, then after that - I'll do the lighting.

I'm a bit of a newbie at this mapping thing (I've made a few, but never published them), anyway I love the idea of participating in a community project. could I have MAP19 please? I promise I can deliver a good quality map!

Oh, this is cool. I haven't finished playing through it, but I just wanted to suggest something. The tiling of the road flat repeats too often to make it feel as though the vehicle is clearly moving fast. I think you'd sell the effect better if you used a flat that is one big tile. Playing around with it, I found that BRIKGTHA gives a pretty good road-moving-fast feel to it.

 

I'll try to beat the level later. It seems great. Makes me excited for this project to be finished (although that might be a while)

Ok, I now I replace it with BRIKGTH1.If I will found floor better than that, I use it.

Alright... Uh,

+ This map looks cool.
+ The ideas this map has are very creative.
+ The music is good.
/ I'm not too sure how well a map that took me 79 minutes to complete would go into the 13 slot.
/ The transitions between the different music tracks are timed well, but the actual transitions themselves are clunky.
- The combat is acceptable at best, and pretty bad at worst. There's too much doorfighting and not enough supplies for the player to beat the map, also I'm pretty sure the big brown arena with the spider mama in the middle has no functioning exit.
- You don't have the freedom to approach combat scenarios the way you want to. It seems the map was balanced with the boring way (doorfighting and lameplay) in mind, and therefore any attempts to experiment result in frustration.
- Lifts (and what else) are not well-indicated.
- There are texture alignment errors everywhere.
- By the end of the map, I felt as if I had just wasted my time, in other words the progression does not justify the length.

Not accepted, however fixable. Also, @wumbo, if I had to critique any of the music, the song "Triumphants" sounds less epic and more generic boss fight music for a late 90s fantasy RPG game.

This map is a ten.
I don't think I've ever seen something quite so mesmerising rendered in this engine, like, I'm dead serious when I say this. That moment at the beginning when the lights go out and the music kicks in had my mouth agape for five whole minutes. I won't spoil the map in this thread for anyone who hasn't played it, but it's an absolute must. Drop whatever you're doing right now and play it. I would also like to comment on how the yellow key is given to the player at the very beginning of the map, because once I pick it up, I immediately understand what I need to do, the ending is directly in front of me, I just need to unlock it. If you don't plan to modify this in any way, I will accept it as is, there is nothing that needs to be done.

Want me to change anything about it? I could if you really wanted me to. I will say, it all really comes down to @Forgotten Soul, as it is his map. I could shave off the first half of the song and base it off of the last section and build off of that instead, as long as it's okay with the map maker. :)

Can you send evidence of your maps being worked on by the end of the month? Otherwise, I would have to ask you to relinquish your slot.

 

I probably should be included in this as I haven't posted a status update in a while. I'm finishing up my map for Rusty Drill this weekend, then will put my focus on finishing up my Vanity map. I'm already 60% done, and will post updated screenshots next week.

Well... I havent given up, just got miffed as usual at some point, and currently away for work again, and ofc i get back on the 1st (wich is just outside of the given time frame. :D) So... Yeah. I guess i can try and ask for an emergency leave for 1 day somepoint during the month and try to post a few pics of what i have so far. So don't count me out just yet.
