arsac Posted August 10, 2023 (edited) Fucking loving the Call of the Machine episode. A Grave For Dead Gods is fantastic. The gameplay, the design, just everything about it is perfect. Spoiler Just found the secret trial for this map. Made it 10x better, holy shit. Edited August 10, 2023 by Z50 4 Quote Share this post Link to post
Individualised Posted August 10, 2023 Multiplayer is really fun. First time playing Quake 2 online - I had only played singleplayer when I played Yamagi. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

The developers are relentless on it, it's basically slaughtermap incarnate for Quake. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Reigada Posted August 10, 2023 Machinegames has a master's degree on how to make a good quake campaign, Call Of the Machine really is breathtaking 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Rudolph Posted August 10, 2023 Huh? Is MachineGames involved in the remasters? I know they made Dimension of the Past to celebrate Quake's 20th anniversary, but I did not know they were behind Dimension of the Machine and now Call of the Machine. I thought they were busy with that Indiana Jones game. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Dweller Dark Posted August 10, 2023 I'm kind of curious, what are all these OGG tracks (besides #2-#11, those are Sonic Mayhem)? 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

I have no idea what The Dave D. Taylor Blues is doing there though, someone else will have to explain that, I'm guessing it's something used in id Vault but I didn't hear it when I was looking through that. TJG1289 Posted August 10, 2023 I played through a bit of the original campaign, and it's a great remaster so far! The new berserker surprised me! It's actually a threat now. Only issue I'm having is the energy armor always reactivates whenever I pick up ammo for anything. I don't want to waste cells on it so I turn it off, but it always turns back on by itself whenever I grab any type of ammo. Kinda annoying, but I can deal with it. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

I did figure out track 12 is ETF from the Ground Zero mission pack. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

I liked their DOOM Classics Collection Special Edition, but I didn't get their Quake release due to the high price and lack of interesting goodies. The Quake II Ultimate Edition is a little cheaper, but unfortunately I still feel the physical extras are really lacking. The tiny metal ship looks nice, but I don't think there is enough stuff there to justify an ultimate edition release in an oversized box. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Individualised Posted August 10, 2023 (edited) FIREBLU gets some love! (Also this screenshot highlights a small issue... on my system the new Quake 4(?)-style UI doesn't scale properly, for example you can see artefacts on the "Options" text in this image. I imagine this has something to do with integrated graphics and it's really not an issue at all once you get used to it but thought it was worth reporting anyway). Has there been any word from any people who run Quake 1 Enhanced dedicated servers about running them for this too? Seems like there are also issues with multiplayer right now. Keep getting disconnected from lobbies mid-match (or before I can even get into the game) and after asking in-game chat it appears other people are experiencing the same issue. @Edward850 you might want to look into this if you're not aware? Rudolph Posted August 11, 2023 I do not like Quake 1 enough to bother with most custom mapsets, especially those with modern level design that feel way too intricate and grandiose for that game, but I am genuinely hopeful that Quake II gets the same love, since I find its gameplay loop, arsenal and bestiary to be much more interesting. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

If the host leaves or just straight up sucks at hosting (don't host on WiFi, for example), your connection will drop as there's nothing to fall back on (nor is falling back even possible, Quake2's netcode is specfically designed in a way that makes host migration impossible). I heard on the Livestream that many of this maps are done by workers on Machinegsmes like sort of a hobby, a QuakeJam Maps and they are mostly bettewn the workers that take theirs time to map.on trechbroom. Many of this workers get to know about the remaster and sure enough they have something to show and use it. I'm pretty sure they get the information a lot sooner that other's Media because That's how they work. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

That's really fucking cool that they're putting in the effort for a version of the game that doesn't even run on the Quake engine. Like I said, above and beyond. Wonder how difficult it was to do the Quake II 64 stuff? I know it runs on the Quake engine but I imagine it's much more different to PC Quake 2 than Quake 64 was to PC Quake 1, given that the latter was just a port while Q2 was pretty much an original game on N64. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

If the maps it's made by .BSP type of map I suppose it's should be like need to extract the data and re structure the maps to be on line with the game. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Daytime Waitress Posted August 11, 2023 Is there any chance we'll see a "sort by ping" feature in multiplayer? Asking for some HPB who lives in Japan and keeps having to join games in Texas... 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Biodegradable Posted August 11, 2023 (edited) Awesome to see it get announced and fully released on the same day! You can tell how old I am because I wasn't expecting that at all. I'm also pleased to see that those of us who already bought the game digitally can just update our copy instead of having to buy it separately. Now I can actually play Quake 2's expansions since the original files on Steam never worked for me for reasons I was unable to figure out. Congratulations to our friends at Nightdive for their stellar work as always. Quake fans, rejoice! Edited August 11, 2023 by Biodegradable 8 Quote Share this post Link to post
