It's already a pickup in The Reckoning, right at the start.

Why was the item only added to The Reckoning? Ground Zero had plenty of dimly-lit areas where it would have been useful as well.

For whatever reason Sponge considered Reckoning to be significantly dark and required it. I have no further information.

I imagine the flashlight was taken out in Ground Zero in favor for the expansion-exclusive IR goggles.

Ah, that sounds likely. Too bad, the IR Goggles are single-use only and do not last very long.

¿I have a question,  the nightdive team are gonna release addons for quake 2 (like doom classic and quake 1)?

Your typical mod for Quake2 involves a custom game library, very few standalone maps exist. Unlike Quake1 where the game behavior was done entirely with a custom virtual machine, Quake2's modding uses native code libraries (you'll usually remember them as gamex86.dll) which is a non-portable program as they are compiled to the machine code of the OS and architecture. There is no logical way to port these to consoles. Likewise you don't need an addons menu for PC if it's the only platform that can, people can still make and deploy mods the traditional way.

Also: Id focuses on modern add ons for various logistical/quality reasons and there’s just not a lot of modern Quake 2 addons. And by that I mean there’s like one modern Quake 2 modder beavering away on stuff like a modern-day Hiroo Onoda after everyone else either moved backwards to Quake 1 or forwards to Q3, Half Life etc.

You probably mean Quakeulf? He recently released a Quake 2 25th Anniversary Collaborative Unit with some other authors, I still have to check it out.

Then there is Andrea Rosa's 2018 release of Citadel.

I also remember two other high quality fan-made misson packs that incorporated their own custom texture sets, just can't remember name right now. I think the were at least from the 2010s, they definitely didn't look like something 1997.

edit: Slight Mechanical Destruction by Chris "Musashi" Walker (2013)

and

Quake 2: Oblivion by Lethargy Software (1999, 2012 patched re-release).

Yeah, Ulf/Colonthree. I think he's updating some of his mapsets for the remastered version?

When i start the game and the title screen with the Q2 logo and N64 music appears, it stays there for only 2 seconds and it immediately goes to the demo.

I don't think that's intended? I think it's because of my 240hz screen... Maybe the title screen is locked to the refresh rate and it goes away too fast?

I'm confused, what exactly do you think is a problem? You only described the game loading the attract demo.

Go to "Options" - "Gameplay" and turn "Run Attract Demos" to off. Nothing to do with your monitor rate, it's a default setting to play demos.

Oh, my bad then. I thought it was a title screen, not a loading screen. The music ending abruptly threw me off.

It's specifically the old console, or what was left of it. It doesn’t show the text it originally did.

I'm not on 60 fps constantly on Quake II Remastered, i have frequently some framerate problems with all the graphic options on ultra (with a 2080). It sucks.

I haven't had those problems with a GTX 1060 3GB. I'm running the game with most settings enabled at 1080p, and it seems to be a consistent 60 FPS (I also checked this with an FPS counter). Not to dismiss the poor performance you're experiencing, but I would guess there is some issue somewhere unrelated to the game's optimization given the age of my card.

We don't have an "ultra" graphics setting. You seem to have the wrong game.

Yes i know, I should have said "All the graphic options on maximum for a better visual experience"

You're lucky. When i play First Person Shooters, i like to have constantly 60 fps or more, it appears sometimes when there are several Stroggs in an Arena.

Probably that filthy Vulkan API everybody claims is better than Direct X and Open GL, lol. I don't believe in it, personally. But it's the newest, hippest thing.

I imagine Quake II remaster probably has an option for that, like Doom 64.

Vulkan it's by far better than OpenGL or many DX Games.

Not always, then again it's hard to say what other kinds of memory intensive crap developers are throwing in there to massacre performance these days. Some games don't run properly with Vulkan, in my experience. I've heard that it was a problem on Nvidia's end for updating something and breaking it, but either way, I don't like it.

You might also want to resize (or delete) that stupid face so it doesn't take up half the forum.

I'll make it a spoiler, but your answer it's still very much debatable as the level of hardware used.

I'm on a 1080 and I pretty much don't recall any FPS drops, ever. Something is weird with your system, or it's time to update your crusty 3+ year-old driver.

Eh, anything is debatable really. I've just had bad experiences with it in certain games. Others, not so much. It's only certain games and their framework, and apparently how they react to (video) drivers.

Yeah, I'm on a 1070 and the thing runs flawlessly.
