Roebloz Posted August 10, 2023 (edited) So, I posted this a while back on that other Doom forum board since I was banned here for a year, and then obviously couldn't post it here. Now, that shall change. This isn't really a source port, and is actually a fixed version of that old WinDoom prototype (Aka beta Doom95) As last year I was stuck on my Windows XP pc for a good while before getting a proper replacement, I messed around with old source ports and discovered the existence of WinDoom, which could be run on anything from Windows 3.1 all the way to Windows 11. (And thus, obviously XP) However it had quite a few problems, such as the game crashing upon trying to load HELP2. Using a hex editor, I was able to fix that particular bug, and, since I could modify stuff like the border flat, I decided to make that the flagship feature of this edit of WinDoom. I present to you: Chippy Doom! Now, this is definitely NOT the definitive way to play vanilla Doom in any way, (It doesn't load Episode 4 and can still crash randomly, and doesn't even have MIDI support) and is more just a small experiment from me that I thought would be cool to share. So if you want (For some reason) to experience the last prototype of WinDoom with custom border flats and no crashes on Doom 1's title screen (As well as a small instructions text file to know how to work this whole thing) then this is for you. (It CAN be useful for an easy and quick portable Doom installation, if you want to play something close to vanilla without being Chocolate Doom or test out stuff on Windows 3.1, but I don't really know. Maybe it could also be cool if you're making a vanilla-compatible WAD to have a customized border?) Download: www.mediafire.com/file/um2qr56vosb2lsu/ChippyDoom+v1.0.0.zip/file Alternate Download: chord-book.com/DARE/Roebloz/doom.html I don't think I'll update this much, but one thing I might do eventually (Emphasis on might) is make a proper source port that brings WinDoom's weird menus and stuff, but I guess we'll have to see. (If I ever make that though, I'll also include a bunch of wacky and completely useless features, for sure) Anyway, have fun with this little thing for now. Bye-bye, enjoy your chocolate chip cookie Doom! (Also I know this isn't a source port at all, but where else do you want me to post this?) smeghammer Posted August 10, 2023 Your image links are all broken. Probably DW not allowing mixed content (they are all http: not https:) . Suggest serving them from a secure server (github, dropbox etc.) 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Suggest serving them from a secure server (github, dropbox etc.) Oops. They show up fine for me though? 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
