What other retro fps game would you want to see remastered or remade?

In many ways, I would argue that Return to Castle Wolfenstein does just that, minus Hitler as the final boss.

How is Wolfenstein 3D comparable to RTCW in the same way that Black Mesa is comparable to Half Life?

Terminal Velocity/Fury3, yeah they were technically flight sims, but not massively detached from something like Descent, which seems to come under the FPS banner.

No way, or flight sims of an extremely arcade-ish variety, at most. Both games are much closer to Descent or even your regular "on foot" FPS variety than to any real flight simulator.

Wolfenstein 3D would be awesome in my opinion. There is a lot of potential for a remake of the original events of Wolf3D and given how simple the levels are, could really be developed into something unique and original. (Akin to BLλCK MESA for HL1)

Black Mesa took the clearly defined levels of HL and made them more detailed and realistic looking. Doing something comparable with the flat, often abstract, rectangular mazes of Wolfenstein 3D would result in very weird environments with shallow gameplay. Maybe something resembling liminal spaces.

And when you just take the general idea as a base, that's what Return to Castle Wolfenstein already did in an excellent way.

Also, for some reason, Wolfenstein 2009 brought back Hans Grösse.

It's a sequel to RTCW, which itself is a reboot of Wolf3D. Technically TNO is a sequel to 2009 because it brings back Caroline and she references Hans from 2009.

However, TOB is a retelling of the Castle Wolfenstein section from RTCW, which wouldn't be too bad if it wasn't for the fact BJ remarks having dealt with Deathshead's Ubersoldat before from the X-Labs, which weirdly suggests BJ was captured and sent to Wolfenstein twice.

That's okay though, because MachineGames timeline apparently retcons prior games so it may as well be the third time the series has been rebooted.

Yeah, I am aware of all that. It is really confusing... especially since TNC shows Hitler to be alive and not-so-well.

And last I checked, Wolfenstein 2009 is still no longer available for purchase, which is really odd, considering it is, like you said, a prequel to TNO.

ShadowCaster

This, this, this.

My usual salty grognard response to a thread like this is "I hate reboots/remasters/reissues" but ShadowCaster is a game that could actually benefit from one if it's done right.  A few years ago I did sort of a Raven pilgrimage and played through Black Crypt and ShadowCaster completely because I never had beaten them before and well... if I had to pick between the two to play through again for fun it would have to be Black Crypt, even though I have certain dislikes towards aspects of the "Dungeon Master clone" genre in general.  ShadowCaster was just such an awkward transitional phase between that sort of game and a more Heretic-like one and it really did not work.

But the concepts behind it?  There were amazing ideas there, the shapeshifts, the locations, the aesthetic of the graphics; do an entire reboot and take all that, ditch the terrible clunky gameplay and the orthogonal level designs and make something fun to play out of it.  Fix the atrocious regeneration system (either put enough health/mana potions that you can ditch the regen mechanic entirely, or make it fast enough that it's not "go AFK for 10 minutes to heal back up before you can keep playing"), make the inventory less awkward to deal with.  Keep the core worldbuilding and lore ideas, keep the shapeshifts and special powers, keep it colorful.  Probably make the rudimentary hub idea into more of a Soul Reaver / metroidvania type deal where getting new forms lets you access new areas across a big unified world.  Maybe don't even have it be first person, I can picture a third person game doing some cool stuff like really leaning into the martial arts stuff with Kirt's human form, maybe the Maorin could grab humanoid enemies by the limbs with his four arms and quarter them as a finisher and stuff like that.

Done right it could be amazing, and if it ended up being done wrong it at least wouldn't be taking a dump on the legacy of a game that was actually good.  With the sorry state of Raven these days and I haven't even bothered to follow what happened to Origin, who knows what the chances are of ever seeing anything done with it, though.
