Gibbitudinous Posted August 20, 2023 Is there a playlist or even just a simple text list of all the songs referenced in Italo-Doom's map titles, including who they're by, because a lot of these seem to be too obscure for me to find at all. Indeed searching for them often just ends up bringing up results for Italo-Doom. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Is there a source for this other than the Wiki currently saying "It's also notable for all maps being named after Italo disco songs," because that seems obviously wrong lol. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Gibbitudinous Posted August 20, 2023 Well at least some of the maps are named for actual songs (map09 featuring a midified version of the song that map10 is named for, for instance, which is pretty confusing), but I dunno about all of them since I know that there's some really obscure stuff out there, especially when it comes to, say, German music which will absolutely get copyright-claimed off the internet. Wouldn't surprise me to learn that either Ribbiks or Dannebubinga is just that big into italo-disco to have some insanely obscure knowledge of it. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
baja blast rd. Posted August 20, 2023 > but I dunno about all of them since I know that there's some really obscure stuff out there Yeah just to be clear, when I said that line seemed obviously wrong, it's because "all" are not. This is one of those cases where some isn't partial credit if you say all, because that's a pretty big difference and can lead people on wild goose chases for other plausibly song-like titles (so maybe "Fair and Balanced" is skipped :P). Spoiler The trivia is also wrong for claiming that Italo Doom is notable for that, which isn't true either (the silly presentation yes, but even with specifically the map names, the ones that aren't songs are more noteworthy and amusing to people). So I'd say it's a double wrong line rather than a half-right one lmao. But yeah I asked Danne and he said only some are and that the ones that are would be pretty easy to find -- so if anything seems tough to track down, it's probably not one of those. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
No-Man Baugh Posted August 20, 2023 Would love to listen to Racist Police Force or Pussy Alive 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
No-Man Baugh Posted August 20, 2023 But anyways I went to Discogs and tracked down as many euro-disco tracks as I can: Spoiler Map 01: Slice Me Nice by Fancy (German) Map 02: Humanoid Invasion by Laserdance (Netherlands) Map 06: Baila Bolero by Fun Fun (Italo) Map 08: Bang Bang Baby by Eddy Huntington (Italo) Map 09: Love is Just a Word by Silent Circle (German) Map 10: Flames of Love by Fancy (German) Map 12: Up & Down by Eddy Huntington (Italo) Map 14: Joe Le Taxi by Vanessa Paradis (Latin) Map 17: Thunderdome by Messiah(?) (not confident if it's actually a reference or not) Map 18: Steps to Heaven? (could be either 7 Steps to Heaven by Ecstasy Boys or 2 Steps to Heaven by Ultra Boogie, but these are both deep house and as such are both real reaches) So yeah, even excluding the reaches, only a third of Italo-Doom's references are actually from Italy. how about that? titles that are (probably) not references are: Pussy Alive, Cereal, Hollow Point, Central Processing, King of Tinder, Fair and Balanced, Aktivitetshanteraren (which is just "task manager" in Swedish), Warning Bonanza, Turtleneck for Xmas, and Racist Police Force (Hollow Point, King of Tinder, Warning Bonanza I'm especially disappointment in both myself and contemporary disco musicians for not finding anything on as those are really good names for euro-disco tracks) 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

But yeah, big thanks for the list of songs. Can't say I'm surprised you had to guess on some of them since I definitely was when I tried looking. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
