bowserknight Posted August 22, 2023 (edited) Many years ago, back when I was still using ZDaemon (it was like 2016 or even earlier), I liked going through random wads and just playing them coop with different people online. Back in the day it was really fun and it actually helped me find a few cool oldschool wads. But I remember there being one wad in particular, I think it was a rather well-known one too. It had one specific map that stuck in my mind ever since I played it back in the day. I really wanna play it again but I just can't seem to remember the name of the wad and it's making me go nuts... So here's a few striking details I remember: -the map consisted mostly of a series of small, square shaped arenas with some stone pillars to hide behind -the square shaped arenas were surrounded by darkness, no real walls -some of the rooms had an infinite stream of slow-moving rockets flying straight through the arena -probably the most important detail: the music of the map was the background music of the TV series "Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction" -it might have been one of the secret maps, but I'm not sure about that -the wad might have been a coop-based one, not supposed to be played alone? not 100% sure about this either That's about all I can say about the map. If anybody has any idea what I'm talking about, please let me know. From what I can tell, it used to be a pretty popular multiplayer wad back in the day, and especially the music from "Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction" should be a big tell for people who know the map. I mean this music: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gsqlScU31_o Edited August 22, 2023 by bowserknight 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
AF-Domains.net Posted August 22, 2023 What you're describing sounds similar to the LA wads that were (and still are) being hosted. I'm not sure if any of thse wad names (partial names) will ring a bell: la-archiinvasion la-lavaworld la-spacestation la-swampworld la-waterworld 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Especially Lavaworld / Waterworld ring a bell. I'm pretty sure I played some of these maps in ZDaemon back in the day. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
bowserknight Posted August 22, 2023 Alright, I just checked some of those LA wads and I found one that's called "la_compilation58". It contains tons of maps from different LA wads and one of them seems to be called "Platform Terror". There's like 60 maps from that part alone, and they all are VERY similiar to the map I remember. They all take place on small square platforms with infinite streams of rockets / BFG balls which you have to avoid or jump over. However I haven't found the specific map I'm looking for yet. To be honest, I didn't expect there to be this many maps of this type, I thought it was a one-off thing but there's dozens. Those wads also don't seem to follow the 32-maps structure of "normal" wads... 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
AF-Domains.net Posted August 22, 2023 Those wads definitely had their own convention. Though when it comes to the la_compilation wads, the later versions were done independently; the differing map naming conventions are to denote the different level types. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
