Resources: Various [Makkon, Incan/Egyptian/Aztec textures from aaliens, Celtic, etc. will need to draft a longer list of credits] compiled in wad. IWAD: Doom II "Your journey has taken you far, explorer. Now here, deep in the thick brush of the unrelenting Orion rainforest, you have found that of which you have dedicated your life in search of... The Tomb of Sir Blazkowicz the Fifth lies beyond the ancient stone of this malevolent temple. But yet... the spirits here demand a sacrifice. To gain entry into the tomb you must prove your worth to the gods of this land. Eighteen trials stand before you. Endure the madness of these archaic sanctums and perhaps you will bear witness to the tomb of the legendary knight of the hidden blade. Mysterious Mayan Madness is a 20 map megawad (2 of which being an intro and a credits map) created as the fifteenth edition of the Pineapple Under the Sea speedmapping series and our first event of 2022. Hailing as a spiritual successor to Clandestine Castle Crashing, each map was made with an 8 hour time limit with the requirements that mappers make a jungle temple with a minimum of 4 traps of various types and 6 secrets within. After escaping the famous PUSS dev hell, these jungle temples are here to perplex and stun you as you inspect every single brick for a soulsphere. Known Bugs: I haven't finished the player sprites. You'll only see his back at the end so just don't turn around. Another one of our dev hell classics has finally been dusted off, polished, and thrown off the cliff in hopes it'll fly! Despite taking forever, this project a was a great learning experience for managing ambitions as well as the potential, and yet restrictions, of shooting for a GZDoom exclusive wad. Wrapping it up shouldn't have taken as long as it should have, admittedly, but as you all know well and good it hasn't been easy to clear my way through the brush every since I broke my machete. Regardless, many thanks to everyone who contributed to this project and helped it become what it is today! Some incredible maps in this project (Myolden's being one of my favorites from him ever) as well as some first time contributions from Egregor and Horselessheadsman, who would later go on to create some hallmarks for the PUSS series. Raith138 Posted August 23, 2023 My recording keeps on getting screwed up so I will just give advice through writing. Map 01 (The actually map 01 not the intro level.): It was good. Loved the aesthetics and gameplay was really good. I think the switch to get out of the room with the crusher is kinda hard to see so I died a few times there trying to figure out what to do. Raith138 Posted August 23, 2023 (edited) Map 02: Absolutely amazing, no critiques on anything about it. By far my favorite so far. Map 03: It was good, again, no critiques. Map 04: A couple of things here. The yellow room feels kinda empty. The blue texture that surrounds the teleporter that leads you to the final area is misaligned. Kind of forgot to add some stairs to these water inlet pits on either side of the room, so players can't fall in and be trapped if the water-trap isn't triggered yet. Raith138 Posted August 23, 2023 (edited) Map 05: The red key trap is horrifically hard and is well beyond on fun. The stairs leading up the wall in that room literally lead to nothing and for some reason the alcoves with the torches have a damaging floor. The room with the wind feels like a gimmick rather than something that adds to the map. The end sky view looks kinda weird with the temple in the sky. BluePineapple72 Posted September 1, 2023 A new bug has been found: map17 currently exits to map19 so Map18 is not accessible without cheating. Oh the humanity! Thankfully for you my days of hunting down and killing cheaters are long behind me, so you can idclev as you please. I’ll shoot out a fix whenever I can. CortexReaver Posted September 10, 2023 (edited) Completed the beta version on UV + fastmonsters! Was a fun little mappack, but... some places was quite hard with fast monsters enabled :) Especially pinky pit on map 14, so I've decided to turn it off temporarily. There are also 3 other vids on this WAD, you can check them out in my DOOM playlist. So, I guess this version has twice as many maps than v2 beta. Maybe I can play them later... Raith138 Posted September 14, 2023 Map 06: The idea here is a pretty loose one, it is just one big fight essentially, it is not terrible but I would not go out of my way to play it because it is just not that fun imo. Map 07: I didn't finish it, killing the pile of revenants with the super shotgun is impossible.
