Data Corruption | A Doom II Mod

This is a little map I've been working on the past few days and feel like its time for the release.

The game is corrupting... but even still, something seems- off.

This is a 1 map Doom II mod. Nothing else is required to play it. (I forgot to use the End Game function for the final button and you're able to be soft locked at a certain lift in the map so I’ll fix that when I can)

The only thing I can really say here is, what the hell did I just play?? I have no idea how far gone Doomguy is at this point but ah, you'd almost expect some instant death jumpscare!

That was pretty cool! A nice take on a map going wrong, and using a familiar map is good for messing with the player's senses. I kind of wish the combat reflected this somehow; you use the shadow enemies well (even though I normally hate them, they fit here) but other than that it's fairly standard gameplay-wise.

 

I got softlocked near the end, here, which I assume was unintentional -- but with this map it's hard to say! (click for bigger image)

Also FYI, "vanilla" in Doom is taken to mean works with the original DOS exe, while this is a UDMF map which is basically GZDoom-specific. What you probably meant was that it doesn't modify the gameplay at all or require any mods, but people usually assume that unless you say otherwise, and if you want to be specific you can just say something like "no gameplay modifications." Even that's not strictly true, since you have to pick up the pistol here, which might cause conflicts with other mods if people usually use them. No big deal though.

That was pretty cool. I expected some kind of clone of "The thing you can't defeat", but I think I actually enjoyed more this one. Well done.

I really appreciate the criticism, and I thought I had made that lift accessible if you were to fall back down but I guess not lol! I'm glad you enjoyed it and I really appreciate the feedback on the description of the wad as I'm not familiar with what exactly to specify when it comes to uploading a new map.  Either way, ill update this and cannot appreciate the help more!

I actually played that a while back and was IN LOVE with the idea! (was a little salty i aint think of it first lmao) So it inspired me to make my own and after a while I kind of came up with the idea of the wad slowly corrupting "itself" as I hadn't seen it done before. I appreciate the kind words and am glad you enjoyed this as much as you did! Many thanks <3

hey there, Great video and I thought it was pretty cool the way you got the megasphere and backpack secret, as I hadn't intended on anyone accessing it like that lol! Hope you enjoyed it!

Hey I gave your map a play through. This was pretty fun! I really liked the concept and most of the execution, and I think the length was just right. I would be interested to see this idea played out over a longer project, but I think that would require fleshing out the concept more to avoid it getting stale.

 

Here is a video I recorded. Right now it's unlisted but I will be publishing it on my channel probably tomorrow.

A very interesting map. Clearly one of the most intriguing wads I've seen this year. I've the feeling the MyHouse.wad has made its path because I had some vibes. :P

 

The feeling to see the map being transformed to this... thing makes me scared a bit. By the textures and by the Akira Yamaoka-esque music, the ambience was a huge success. Just like the wad in general. Nice job ! I hope your next wad will be a good surprise just like this one ! <3

I thought about doing this for the entirety of Knee Deep in the Dead as I have TONS of ideas for this, but considering I am unsure how to do a lot of what I want I just decided it'd be a one map wad for now. Thanks a ton for the video and the insight! Glad you enjoyed it!

Aye! You knew exactly who I was trying to sound like with my music haha! I love that! I wish I could find the Doom Midi packs somewhere because I'd absolutely love to make my own songs and ost but until then im stuck with stock presets in FL Studio lmfao! Glad you enjoyed it, my friend! The kind words go a long way!

Doom midi packs? You mean the community-made midi packs or the original Doom midi files? If the latter you can just open up the iwad in SLADE, sort by type and select the .mus files, select "Audio > Convert MUS to MIDI" in the right-click menu, and then export the resulting .mid files.
