When Rage Wars????????

I keep seeing people ask for a Rage Wars remaster, which is sort of confusing to me, as it appears to be a multiplayer-only game.

What is the appeal today in a genre as saturated as the competitive multiplayer first-person shooter?

Does anyone know if the Dark Forces remaster will be a free upgrade or a separate thing?

I feel would be a separate things as the free updates are most likely from Bethesda theyself. And the faq of the force engine talk about bought the newer one, but it's only speculation.

Also hopefully this year of remakes and work make some people more calm about the Atari buy, as they logo finally appears on Turok 3, but still worked in stuff like Quake 2, ROTT, System Schock and many more.

I faintly remember Shadows of the Empire. To me it felt like a typical PC port of a console game, i.e. sub-par controls ruined it to a significant part.

Wasn't it strange, that they managed to pull out a Game with only one Level?

I mean, flying that A-Wing and bringing down the Doggies is fun, but you can't only replay it about 100 Hours, they should have put more in.

Gladful they brough Rogue Squadron.

Jokes aside, Shadows of the Empire was very clunky even on the N64, Controls, Level Design and Difficulty weren't made very well.

The best Part was the first Level :D

Edit:

@Dweller

I guess a separate Thing, as the other free Upgrades had ID behind and the other Ports of Nightdive can't be cross financed so easily.

I would also guess that it is an different Partnership between ID and Nightdive as it is with Disney/Lucas.

Guess one is a Work were they got hired and the other one is actively reaching out for an IP.

Also Disney/Lucas isn't really much into Games any more, so they probably only look to get Money from Licences.

But many Guesses from mine Side.

A-Wing

No, that was an Airspeeder/Snowspeeder. In the movies, the A-Wing only shows up for the Second Death Star Battle.

Turok 3, never played it but going to check it out. The first Turok game remastered *chef's kiss* a fucking god send for those that played it on the N64 back in the day, Turok 2, played it, liked it, hated the alien level because it was too big and very confusing.

This is going to be great, now i wonder if rage wars is going to get the same treatment or port remake of system shock over to consoles? Who knows.

Love me some Dark Forces. Played it for the first time in 2020, and while it was a little clunky, I thought it held up pretty well for as old as it was/is. I'm sure LucasArts was in a "figuring things out" kind of period when it was released anyhow, since they had mostly done platforming games up until then. I look at it as Dark Forces walked so Jedi Outcast could run, or... something lol. Either way, super excited for this remaster from NightDive!

Nightdive has really stepped up their game when it comes to remasters. Can't wait to play Turok 3 without developing a migraine from the frame rate.

I don't know anything about Rage Wars, but any multiplayer game that's got an upfront 1-time cost and doesn't trick you into spending hundreds-to-thousands of dollars on it has much appeal to me

Sure, but there remains one problem: a multiplayer game requires players to play with. :S

Good luck getting enough people to play a Nintendo 64-era multiplayer game for more than a couple hours before getting bored.

Let's have Night Dive Studio remaster the Metal Gear Solid games.

It would take them forever! XD

Joking aside, I like that Night Dive is remastering niche, if not downright obscure games.

I think we saw at least the former coming from a long way off. How could there not possibly be a Turok 3 remaster when the other two are already done? The main issue was it never having come out on PC but that just means it'll take a little longer. Never played it, so it'll be something to look forward to.

Frankly, seeing Dark Forces escape the remaster treatment forever just wasn't likely with its fanbase.

I bet the Lucky Thing is that Acclaims Dev Teams used a Variation of the same Engine for all their Games, be it Turok 2, Forsaken and even Armorines.

So more Sources to find out how some Stuff of the Code worked.

As some mentioned Rage Wars, guess they could throw the Maps and Content in for Multiplayer.

Rage Wars had bots plus it's own little "campaign" iirc, where you completed various objectives (frags, capture the flag, boss battles, etc) to unlock different characters. Most Rage Wars cartridges actually suffer from a bug that broke the campaign, very few fixed cartridges were sent out (and thus cost a fortune). Having a non-busted way to play would actually be pretty cool.

If you look at it from a market saturation point of view, there's not much incentive to do... anything really. Everything is saturated. Financially it might not make too much sense, but it would be nice for completion.

I disagree. We all still find the time to play Classic Doom around here even though it has been made "obsolete" by the likes of Doom Eternal. Unlike multiplayer games, it does not require an enduring playerbase - although it helps - and continuous support from developers (to make sure the servers are running and new content is made available) in order to make the most out of it.

So while I am not against a Rage Wars re-release, I am not sure there is enough of an incentive to invest time, money and resources in it.

I loved the Turok 2 remake, in some ways it felt like a Metroidvania / FPS crossover. On the other hand, i could not get into the first game. While not bad per se, it felt way more linear compared to the sequel and not as tight as something such as Quake or Doom.

How is Turok 3? is it closer to the first or second game?

Thank you, major game developer PR spokesperson.

You are welcome, shut-in with more money than sense.

From the looks of it, probably the latter. According to other persons on the thread, it might even be closer to Half-Life.

The shut-ins with more money than sense are the ones actually buying these games. You should actually be thanking them for supporting game studios by throwing away their money for remasters of old games from their childhood rather than using it as an insult.

Heretic 2 remaster when?

This and Klingon Honor Guard. These are two games which I really miss playing because the originals just don't want to cooperate anymore. :(

Are you trying to troll or something ? Do you think that high school jocks play remasters of 20-30 year old games instead of old geeks and nerds ?

The guy started talking to me as if I am actually working for a major game developer or something, all because I am not personally convinced that Rage Wars is worth remastering. And then when I played along and responded in kind, he doubled down.

I think he just responded like that because of you saying that a non-microtransaction multiplayer game has no place in the modern day basically.

Plus, Doom was pretty well known for it's multiplayer, which is still at least somewhat active to this day, and would probably be more so if GZDoom had better networking.
