BUYXRAYS Posted August 27, 2023 I know this is a stupid question. But can I use color palettes that came from other wads? For example, lets say I wanted to use the palette from sunder. Would I be able to use it and release the wad? And if I can use it, do I need to credit them for creating the palette? 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Higo Doragon Posted August 27, 2023 like with any kind of asset bored form other pwads, credit the original person that made it. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
TheCaneOfTheTophat Posted August 27, 2023 If the license allows the borrowing of assets, credit them in your text file and have fun. That's the rule of thumb for most assets. Just be careful, sometimes some creators don't credit where they got some assets, so you could end up taking an asset that turns out wasn't even allowed to be used. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
indigotyrian Posted August 28, 2023 Go for it, grab all the shit that isn't nailed down. Credit your sources but that's about it. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Ralphis Posted August 28, 2023 (edited) Knew a guy once. He took a palette without permission. Got sued. Lost everything. Now he lives in a van down by the river. Edited August 28, 2023 by Ralphis 18 Quote Share this post Link to post
Shepardus Posted August 28, 2023 Regarding Sunder's palette specifically, that is actually taken from Eviternity, and Dragonfly has given permission to use it. It's good practice to credit your sources whether you're required to or not. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Hahaha, what a story, Ralphis. Anyway, unless the creator has mentioned that they don't want assets from their project used, go for it. Just remember to credit the source :) Edited August 28, 2023 by DoomPlayer00 Added more to reply 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

I'd wondered about Eviternity's palette in the past, because of a few projects that use OTEX but not the Eviternity palette, so this thread convinced me it would be a good idea to definitively clear that issue up. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
