Your mission, should you accept it, is to to make a map using only solid colors. We are using Ancient Aliens palette this time and I think I covered all necessary colors, but feel free to request expansions within reason. The rules: Use the solid colors to make the maps geometry. Do not use the textures or flats from original Doom 2 (Most will be misspaletted anyway) There are several variants of textures available with different height to help you create railings, as well as some grates that can be used as midtextures. It was a bit of a chore to create color variants for all, so I did only a few, if you really need more, feel free to request There are skies that are meant to be used with the maps. Best way to do it is to create UMAPINFO. Preferably, don't use skies as textures on the map. You can make your own sky, but make sure it's in the same style (that is, has limited palette) Map needs a name and preferably a midi. I can help you with the latter. Please credit your midis. Maps should be tested in DSDA-Doom or similar port on complevel 21. If I see you doing something that only works correctly in GZDoom, consequences will never be the same. Be creative, and put effort into mapping. This project is meant to be free for all, but sufficiently low effort maps might be rejected. Please make sure your map can offer 100% kills and secrets. If you have monsters that are not meant to be fought, crush them or turn floor under them into monster-killing floor. Also add difficulties Thanks to UMAPINFO we are not constricted by map count, so restrictions. Just make a map and submit. The current cap is two submissions per person. This might be amended later. Soft deadline is May 1st. Individual extensions might be possible if your map is close to completion. Broad extension might be possible if we are low on maps or I am hit with sudden fit of procrastination. Please also keep in mind the following: This is a community project that will likely have a lot of maps in it. While long maps aren't banned, shorter maps are overall preferable I need to be able to actually beat the map. MAP30 and MAP32 of the original DIY are examples of maps I can't beat, so go below that This is not a platforming wad, so don't have platforming that is too hard (It's fine in small doses) This isn't a slaughter wad. If your idea of a good map involves holding down BFG trigger and gobbling up dozens of megaspheres, perhaps a different project would be more fitting for you. That doesn't mean I don't want challenging maps but I prefer challenge to come from smart monster placement and resource management, and not applying fluid dynamics to the map. Fighting a couple dozen non-boss monsters is not a slaughter in my book. Above all, the map should be fun. Attached is the archive with two wads. pid-resource.wad is the textures. pid-sprites are simply sprite conversion of sprites, menu graphics and the like. For now, I don't want to change sprites, can't really make something that would work for my liking. Some graphics like the menu and status bar might be changed later. Do you consider mid-late sunlust too difficult? Do you consider something like Crumpets too difficult? I kinda fell off the classic-playing wad and didn't make it to those. I should remedy this, before I become Garth Marenghi of Doom mapping. You can look up my previous projects like Hellevator or Skulltiverse, some of the later maps (Specifically 27 and 28 in both) are fairly challenging for me but it's a safe zone as I was able to beat them.
