I'm having a hard time making OTEX work.

St. Mildly Annoyed

Question

I'm using ultimate doombuilder R4091 64 bit on windows 11 and after I add the otex config folder as a directory resource along with doom ii, The otex textures are only mentioned in game configurations and don't appear in doom builder. Instead only the game doom config and otex texture sets are listed in a folder as incorrect textures with the warningImage file "Downloads\OTEX_Config\OTEX_texturesets.cfg" data format could not be read, while loading image "OTEX_TEX". Is this a valid picture file at all? Many steps of the read me seem to be skippable with my set up and I don't know if skipping one of them can make the texture pack run incorrectly. Also, I'm using gzdoom doom2 :UDMF.1418571185_Screenshot2023-09-01002819.png.e87a4196f600a87a88c59fafdcb0085f.png 1428179447_Screenshot2023-09-01002842.png.a50e174deef2dab638e649242a942397.png

try putting the otex file in the ultimate doom builder's folder, then at that otex file as a resource. if that doesn't work, try using [otex_1.1.wad] file, and not the pk3 file. hope this helps! :)

Add the pk3 as a resource in Ultimate Doom Builder

Okay, now it gives me an error saying

Unable to load resources from location "C:\Users\blank\Downloads\OTEX_1.1.pk3". Please make sure the location is accessible and not in use by another program. The resources will now be loaded with this location excluded. You may reload the resources to try again. ArchiveException when creating data reader: Could not find Zip file Directory at the end of the file.  File may be corrupted.

I loaded it both with and without the directory root images as flats/ textures settings.

Perhaps that location, as part of Windows program settings, is inaccessible to unknown third-party programs? Does it do the same thing if you move it to a different, user-created directory?

You have slade open in your screenshot. Is OTEX open in SLADE, or any other programs? That is what the error's complaining about after all.

Could it be something like OneDrive auto-backing up the file and therefore UDB considers it in-use by another program?

Try putting it somewhere that isn't a normal Windows directory, like c:/OTEX or something.

Okay, it seems my stupid ass didn't pickup that there needed to be a wad or pk3.

Just for my own curiosity, when you earlier posted that you had added the pk3 as a resource (here), what had you actually done? Given it sounds like you only just realized you needed the file with the textures in.

I unzipped the pk3, opened udb, made a new map, went to add resource from pk3, and then selected the otex pk3 along with doom2.wad, the otex configuration and gzdoom.pk3.
