Johnny Cruelty Posted September 14, 2023 Can possessed chaingunners, shotgunners and zombiemen be turned back to normal? If so how would the former former humans feel especially the ones who seen doomguy as zombies 5 Quote Share this post Link to post

gibfrag Posted September 15, 2023 I think they’re already dead, their bodies are just possessed now. They’re basically zombies but the kind that has died and is brought back, not the virus kind. 4 Quote Share this post Link to post
D4NUK1 Posted September 15, 2023 They're 100% already dead, something like holy water just Will make the demonic stuff go and leave a rotten corpse. Like in Doom RPG 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Murdoch Posted September 15, 2023 There's nothing to bring back. What little original lore there is suggests the combat took place first, presumably with the legit pure demons, and the former humans are reanimated base staff and soldiers. "For several hours, your radio picked up the sounds of combat: guns firing, men yelling orders, screams, bones cracking, then finally silence. Seems your buddies are dead." Remove the possessing force, and the body would drop immediately. The leftover marine bodies were those presumably too damaged to be reanimated, or simply haven't had a chance to be so defiled. Doom 3 would be potentially different. We do see what looks like evil spirits directly possessing still alive people in the introduction. However, a visual examination of the result shows considerable physical degradation of the body, so it seems unlikely the host (if there's still anything of them left in there at all) would survive a removal of the evil spirit. I am not aware of any specific lore about former humans in the new games, but I can only assume the same logic applies as it does in the classic games. It's literally a walking corpse. Nothing to save. 4 Quote Share this post Link to post

But you do get to send those zombies to the Lord! 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
OliveTree Posted September 15, 2023 i like to follow that one guy's theory that former humans are literally completely eviscerated and only held together by their suits 4 Quote Share this post Link to post
Stupid Bunny Posted September 15, 2023 Yeah I’m going with what @Murdoch said that these blood-soaked, shambling, moaning formers are more akin to zombies than to possessed humans—more zombieman then POSS, if you will. Shooting them isn’t so much depriving them a chance of rescue as it is putting their bodies to rest where they belong (even if it’s in many bits). What I wonder is whether they were reanimated by drifting spirits like in Doom 3, or by a team of arch-viles sent through for the purpose on their way to Earth. Hate to be the Doomguy who comes back from his walk early and finds the Hangar full of archies at work 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Knor964 Posted September 15, 2023 I don't think so they are screwed and I don't think Doomguy cares a lot tbh hahahaha 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
SealSpace Posted September 15, 2023 (edited) If there is an anti-zombie antidote or someone with divine magic powers like Doctor Strange that can revert them back to their normal human forms, I guess. But I'm not aware of anything like that exists in the Doom-verse, unless I'm missing anything. Edited September 15, 2023 by SealSpace 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

Doom 3 had a weird explanation of being some sort of supernatural dementia that corrupts the body, so maybe you can bring back zombies to normal in that game, in the current continuity i'm sure at all because is doom, maybe doom eternal has something weird about it in the codecs 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
houston Posted September 16, 2023 I heard there's a zombie who forgot what side he's on and shoots at other demons and zombies so I think it's possible. I think he's probably the friendly guy from MAP02. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

The mod has fairly oppressive gameplay so it feels real awesome when you suddenly have some allied imps and zombies watching your back. I'm otherwise with some of the other forumgoers here in thinking that those "possessed" humans are also dead, and thus sadly not able to be saved. mrthejoshmon Posted December 9, 2023 (edited) Pretty sure those boys are already dead, also I remember that the manual states that after a while possessed folks ("volunteers") that come back from the portal literally explode into bits. Something tells me the possession isn't gentle and the guy ain't left behind. Also the Doom 3 zombies, specifically the ZSec, appear to have their eyes (and presumably brain) rupture (on the shotgunners it shatters the visor, on the machinegun guys it floods the visors with blood), of they can be "saved" I doubt it is comfortable. Edit: Quote Military "volunteers" entering them have either disappeared or been stricken with a strange form of insanity--babbling vulgarities, bludgeoning anything that breathes, and finally suffering an untimely death of full-body explosion. Matching heads with torsos to send home to the folks became a full-time job. Latest military reports state that the research is suffering a small set-back, but everything is under control. Yeah they're fuckin dead. Edited December 9, 2023 by mrthejoshmon 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Notsee Posted December 9, 2023 They're just like everyone else albeit they're possessed and may explode I thought 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
idbeholdME Posted December 9, 2023 (edited) Probably not so that the body would survive. Their bodies don't look irreversibly banged up in the original Dooms, but they most likely don't eat, drink or sleep and are just driven by the possessing force. So if the evil could somehow be expunged, I don't think the body could recover. And other than physiological effects, we have absolutely no idea what other effects the possesssion has. The "soul" of the human in question is most likely destroyed or completely expunged. Lost Souls have to come from somewhere, right?
