Why isn't there a TC OG X-COM Doom Mod?

Before you ask, yes. I'm already aware that this was asked here before:

https://www.doomworld.com/forum/topic/110123-has-there-ever-been-a-doom-tc-based-on-the-original-x-com-games/

I'm surprised there isn't a complete one out there already.

I mean, there's not even a need to replace most of the assets when they'd fit so well with Doom itself, textures and sprites alike.

This idea is meant for people who aren't really a fan of X-COM's turn-based system. And want something more fun, action-oriented and quick paced. Because the lore of the game goes great with a more hands-on shooter as well.

If it had a story, my idea would be that an X-COM regiment got wiped out during an attempt to fight off the Ethereals in a deserted region.

All but "one survivor" that is...

When they get beamed back to Mars to be studied, they learn to mask their thoughts, and escape their cell.

Now they have to fight through a heap of Aliens after them, all the while trying to get back home.

But of course, that's just my idea.

I'm trying to revive an old thought that still has massive potential for some kind of FPS variation after The Bureau thoroughly disappointed.

Well, the simplest answer to your question is: "It's a lot of work and nobody has been sufficiently motivated to do it."

AS a og xcom fan tgat sounds as a cool premise, though I doubt there is a large overlap between OG Xcom and Doom fans to make this crosover a reality.

There is a mod for openxcom which is set in a Doom universe, last I heard.

There was a project in the works a long time ago (~2013?), but it never quite got off the ground and one of the two creators eventually set their online accounts on fire out of protest of the continued existence of Imgur years before they started actively pissing people off.

Okay, just for funsies, I made a rough mockup of a TFTD Doom thing:

Um, it's a harpoon gun, btw. It just happens to very coincidentally look like the Doom pistol...

That's awesome dude...

You've really got something big in mind here.

Though if there's a mod, I'd classify it as "Episode 2".

In my opinion, it's smarter to make these mods incrementally one episode at a time, all based on the original trilogy to keep people's attention. While at the same time not burning out from making too much all at once.

Assuming the assets are still lingering online somewhere of all of the attempts, my idea is to combine them all, finish what's left, and give proper credit to the ones already made (just to let them know their work isn't stolen).

Because I personally think they've pulled the plug too soon.

But once again, that's all just my opinion.

Those are the people least likely to care. I don't care about Warhammer, so if I see a Warhammer TC, I look at the sprites and say "that's pretty good art" and move on, because the project isn't for me. I wouldn't understand the lore, the references, how accurate the TC is to the actual Warhammer universe, etc. You could sit down and make a dope-ass Star Trek TC, but it won't convert many people who aren't a fan of the franchise.

X-Com is popular, but not popular to the point where I'm surprised at all to hear that there's not some expansive project representing it. Final Fantasy is mega-popular, but I don't recall any popular FF TC projects. I'm sure some of them exist, but obviously not many people care because I've never heard about it, even though FF is mega-popular and I've been here for almost three years now.

Makes sense, no denying that.

I've singled this one out specifically because a Doom mod would match up perfectly. The big difference of course being that none of the attempted mods were ever finished as far as I know.

Think of the idea as "Space Wolfenstein with Aliens". And I don't mean the Blake Stone or the Xeno Aliens kind.

I mean, who wouldn't want to see that?

I do think X-Com would fit DOOM very well. Personally I would want an aesthetic mod more than anything, because there are a lot of map packs that would look awesome with the enemies and weapons. Have you ever heard of Gothic DOOM? Over on the ZDoom forums, it's two separate mods: one for weapons, the other for enemies. It completely reskins the enemies, weapons, and items. They are also working on a version that changes gameplay. I think X-Com would be good for a mod like that. It might be worth talking about over on ZDoom Forums, they're really into gameplay mods and stuff over there.

Yeah a lot of you hoping for X-com Doom TC, meanwhile I´m kicking can here waiting for some sucker to make Mobile Suit Gundam TC.

That would be dope

Best I can do is Doomkid's Highway Acceleroid Booster which is a Mega Man homage. 😆

Metroid Dreadnought also exists. Descent Doom also exists.

I swear I seen a mech project at one point but I can't remember it's name.
