Majin Posted September 22, 2023 i want to make a cool map for myself 1st that could eventually become something others could enjoy. Essentially I wanna be authentic but I find it very hard to be because I'm critical of anything that isn't watered down and streamlined for a random player. Even when I promise that I'll be the only person to ever make this map I'm still going above and beyond to make it make sense to theoretical players. "NOOO YOU CANT MAKE A MAP THAT USES A TEXTURE FOR HOW IT WASN"T INTENDED IT'LL CONFUSE PEOPLE AND STUFF AND IT'LL BE UNEJOYABLE YOU HAVE TO BE AS ORDINARY AS POSSIBLE. smeghammer Posted September 22, 2023 Best advice is ALWAYS make a map for you. If nobody else likes it, so what? It is for YOU. If it plays well for you and you enjoy it, very likely someone else will also like it. The stuff about textures is familiarity and understood ques - if you want to use textures for something other than their 'normal' use, that's OK - just be consistent. 4 Quote Share this post Link to post
Dreamskull Posted September 23, 2023 (edited) From my experience theres some kind of proper channel and protocol for serious map making and if you aint involved with the very specific method, youll get flak for it, regardless if its good or bad. Just make sure its up to code and if it doesnt have glaring issues, youll be able to rest easy, even with gripe, which is very common. If you think its bad now, wait till youre supposedly "done" making the map. Make sure to give yourself plenty of time after youre supposedly completed because youll find plenty of error and you dont want "that" to be it. Youll have to trust me there, it isnt a pretty picture. If you dont have OCD by finish, you will develop it. If you already do beforehand, youll go insane, no joke - straight up a wall bonkers with cheese. I have to give fair warning to you. If you think youve got issue now, dont build anything large.
