Quin Posted September 23, 2023 (edited) Introducing Green, Brown & Blue, my latest exercise in creating an Ultimate Doom vanilla run-and-gun map that features a few modern mapping techniques within vanilla limitations. Therefore, anything from Chocolate Doom to GZDoom can play this map. Expected to rise to Plutonia levels of difficulty, this map also possesses slight variation through skill levels for those squeamish types. Map Development Time: 6 Days Typical Playtime: 8 - 10 Minutes Ports Tested: Chocolate Doom (No crashes or hitches on my end...) Crispy Doom Download (Updated) Spoiler Also, stay tuned for Close Quarters, another vanilla map in the works! Edited September 29, 2023 by Quin Applied a missing texture and various other things... 11 Quote Share this post Link to post
LadyMistDragon Posted September 24, 2023 (edited) Can someone please tell me why the maps with the dumbest names are the most fun? It's a scientific fact but that doesn't mean it's comprehensible. But anyway, this is a great little pressure cooker of a map! Personally, a mapper who basically has barrels placed from the word "go" will give people a good time and this doesn't disappoint! Not terribly difficult but rocket launcher is handed out early with lots of ammo around! And that final setpiece was incredibly well done for what it is. Especially the fact you can death exit:) It's often said a Doom 1 map is too tough to engage with but this is just short enough to completely wipe that criticism off the board! And you would not believe how rare it is that the wad actually takes the time to complete stated in the intro post! It was still a little on the long side admittedly, but that's kind of how I play. Grizzly Old B Posted September 24, 2023 Very nice and enjoyable map! The UV difficulty was just about right for my average skill level, though I needed a few tries/saves for the final fight. Also, I didn't find the berserk secret, somehow it didn't stand out to me. (But perhaps I'm just blind.) After killing the final enemy, I was really puzzled about how to reach the exit. Thankfully, LadyMistDragon's comment above provide the life-saving [sic] hint ... Well done, hope to see more from you in the future! 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Jayextee Posted September 24, 2023 Wait. An Ultimate DOOM map, with a Plutonia-level difficulty, and it's vanilla-compatible? Pinch me, I'm dreaming. Played HMP with Chocolate DOOM. This was fantastic, from beginning to end. Suffered one death in the Cyberdemon room, not counting the (required? I spent a minute or two sniffing around for an alternative method) self-inflicted death I exited with. Aesthetics were great, and there are plenty of rockets to go around (a must in a map with numerous Barons such as this one). Yeah, that was a short 'n' sweet must-play. I want an entire episode of this now. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Dusty_Rhodes Posted September 24, 2023 Really fun level! I was a little confused by the Spoiler suicide exit but otherwise really enjoyed the progression and fights. Cool geometry on this one. Really detailed and fun! 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
