Chopper Posted October 1, 2023 Not meaning to get philosophical here, but the mood really helps in a map's aesthetic. Like a city level doesn't feel that good in stock Doom II, but if it feels like a post-apocalypse, then it definitely works really well, or for another example, a regular techbase might feel boring, but if it feels like an infiltration and plays to that strength, it definitely helps with the atmosphere. But if I were to be more specific, it would probably have to be a techbase like Skillsaw's, or a temple type level akin to something Antares031 would make. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Amaruψ Posted October 1, 2023 (edited) Babylonian and Greek architecture is what I thrive for. Unfortunately, I've not seen many in the Babylonian category in DOOM, because I've probably haven't been paying much attention. Egyptian is also a favorite, probably more so than the other two. staxed Posted October 1, 2023 classic style abstract hell themes. marble, stone, blood and tech all wound up together. i like seeing e1 textures in hell because i like to imagine that the demons have stolen resources and maybe transported whole buildings from the uac to further benefit themselves. twisted flesh and buildings that don't make sense. texture misuse such as doors replacing lifts and monitors and switches stuck in a flesh wall. all the stuff that scared me as a kid. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
