Darkcrafter07 Posted September 27, 2023 (edited) I prefer it with PCem with custom sharpen and Mattias CRT shaders but custom DOSBox with Lottes CRT is good too. Edited December 10, 2023 by Darkcrafter07 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Though I would recommend using Crispy Doom, Woof, or DSDA-Doom instead, unless you're looking for the exact "pure" experience of the original game. Those are way easier to use, and have better graphics and mod support as well as some important quality-of-life improvements, while still preserving vanilla demo compatibility. ++Crispy ~ it's the double scaling for me. 20 hours ago, CAM-7EA said: Just do what you want, use the one that makes your head hurt less getting working and what feels best on your system. That does it; gut busted... 7 hours ago, Sneezy McGlassFace said: Player should use whatever is more convenient for them, imo. But if mapper makes a strictly vanilla map, I think they should do at least the final testing in the DOS exe. I am so glad that the only vanilla map I've made in the last dozen or so years was for a community project. I agree on the final testing and am happy there was someone else to test! For the most part, I'm sticking with Zandronum for testing and playing my Doom-y stuff. It's rare for it not to run something I've downloaded even though there's lots of WADs that say GZDoom required. Thankfully, I've mostly stuck to playing inexperienced mapper's works; they don't take advantage of stuff that wouldn't work with Zandronum or my LZDoom. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Pixel Fiend Posted September 27, 2023 Definitely dosbox because it makes a difference. It's a bother to set it up but it's worth it. I prefer Woof over Chocolate Doom but load BTSX in dosbox and it's a completely fresh experience. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
volleyvalley Posted October 1, 2023 DOSBox is good, if you want to get the true original Doom experience, but setting it all up is an hassle most of the time. Chocolate Doom however, has a few differences between it, and the original executable, but the great news is, that it's very easy to set up! 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Master O Posted October 1, 2023 (edited) For anyone wanting to go the DOS route for Doom: These settings will also work with Dosbox-Staging or Dosbox-X as well. For Staging, make sure to set raw_mouse_input = true in dosbox-staging.conf as well. Edited October 1, 2023 by Master O 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
