NEW WORLD RECORDS in Doom 3 and its add-ons

It's hard to believe that Doom 3 will be 20 (!) years old next year 🕗 It may not be the most popular game to speedrun, but despite the passage of time, many Doom 3 records have been set and broken in recent times (late 10s to early 20s). I still consider the secret exit on Delta Labs - Level 2a: Union Aerospace Research Division one of the most useful tricks in the history of the Doom franchise.

I was very surprised when I first found it; undoubtedly, the rocket jump to the ceiling in this level is one of the most time-saving techniques and can be used in a speedrun 💎 Anyway, this month the legendary Corpseflesh is back with even more new records!

After oscillating against 27:30 for a while, I knew it was the last resistance to overcome. And with enough momentum, I finally pushed through it.

 

Some minor flaws are in this run, but nothing awful. It was only the second time I had the fast final boss fight, since I came back to this run, so that was quite fortunate.

It's been about 3 years since my last WR on YouTube for Doom 3 and recently I had an itch to try and see if 54:XX was even possible. As it goes in speedrunning, for a long time I thought it was not humanly viable, at least not for me.

 

But then I decided to try and actually dive in and see how much can I optimize everything. I went through all the levels and tried to break my old habits and relearn everything from scratch and question every jump, every shot and every ammo or health pickup and take out anything that is costing me time.

 

Then I slowly started playing individual levels and practicing them thoroughly. After it felt alright, I started grinding runs, and I got to admit, this run took a while to do. That made it much more satisfying in the end.

 

PS I made the game look as close as possible to the original and now I must ask you,
where are your "too bright for Doom 3" comments now? 😛

A nice three minute improvement over my very old run.

 

It's mostly Lekolega's segmented strategies with some twists here and there.

 

Erebus 3, 5 and 6 were quite slow, so I will definitely continue to work on this run.

 

I should be able to shave another twenty seconds off the runtime.
