PhobosLord6045 Posted October 8, 2023 MANY years ago I made a map for Doom II. (2010 to be exact) I think it was a year ago I made a post on the forum about starting up making maps again. WOrk and my personal life have kept me busy, but I've been really missing creating and playing Classic Doom. Attached is the one wad I created. I currently only have Doom Builder 2.. Feel free to take a look at it.. Any advise would be GREATLY appreciated.. uacdi.zip 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
volleyvalley Posted October 8, 2023 You might wanna move this to the "WAD Releases & Development" subforum, since it fits better there. I will take a look at the level tomorrow though. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

If your computer doesn't support opengl 3, you can still upgrade to GZDoomBuilder which will improve your mapping experience (and despite the name is totally capable of making vanilla maps). If it does support gl3 then there's little reason not to get Ultimate DoomBuilder 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Chris Hansen Posted October 8, 2023 Found the pwad on /idgames just in case you forgot https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/levels/doom2/s-u/uacdi There's not a whole lot to see here. A pretty basic map when it comes to appearance and gameplay. You should focus on fleshing out the next map more as you seem to understand the more interesting features of an advanced port such as GZDoom. I mean, you got a lot of interesting things going on with all that fog and light and even some doomcute little details. But that doesn't make a interesting map in itself which leads me to the gameplay department where it severely lacks any bite to live up to the mood set by all those GZDoom effects. The traps are okay, but since you hand out powerful armor, health and ammo left and right, there's little opposition in those lower tier enemies. Continue doing what you do, but don't be afraid to give the player a true challenge. Other things I noticed: - Mark the doortrack textures at the doors as "lower unpegged". - Clearly mark locked doors that requires a key and generally don't give the player the key before he's seen the door. And two keys in such a small level is a little bit over the top. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

PhobosLord6045 Posted October 13, 2023 I read everyone's comments.. THANK YOU!! My current plan is this; My schedule is still a bit hectic, and with the holidays coming up it won't be any easier. I've downloaded UDB and WOW!!! Gonna take some time for me to figure out how to use all the features.. But to get back in the swing of map building, I'm going to use the old school DB2 and make regular, no frill maps.. I'm hoping to create two, maybe three maps to upload to Doom World for everyone to check out and critique.. Might have the first map out before thanksgiving.. Planning on recreating my UACDI wad, put a completely different spin on it. It will be no frills like I said before, but you'll get the basic idea.. KEEP A LOOK OUT!! 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
DaBigNerd Posted October 13, 2023 (edited) If you can, it'd be worth switching to Ultimate Doom Builder. It gets regular updates, is easier to use, and on top of that DB2 is outdated. EDIT: Looks like I didn't read the post above me. Lol! Edited October 13, 2023 by DaBigNerd 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
