Out of all the metroidvanias that I've played & enjoyed, Hollow Knight seem to be giving me trouble getting into it for some reason. It might be some unique approaches to certain mechanics, like the way map updating works is you buy paper, you explore areas & the map only updates when you sit on a bench aka save the game.

The artstyle seem to be another factor. It's not appalling or anything but it's not appealing either.

The combat wasn't engaging either, though I heard it gets better once you upgrade things but sadly, after playing the game for four hours, I lost patience for it & that was five years ago.

Thankfully, I got the game for free so I didn't feel bad dropping it.

I respect devs for putting love & passion to it & others for loving the game.

It was the most emotional ending since Schindler's List for sure, I was left silent and shaking.

I was shaking so much that I registered on the Richter scale.

I definitely get what you mean. Although I enjoyed it, I haven't gone back to play it once.
Calling it the weakest mainline game you've played and then giving it a 7/10 is certainly praising with damnation, however, I suspect you never played Super Mario 3d World. It's by no means terrible, but that doesn't mean it's good. I reckon the disappointment of Super Mario 3d World was why Odyssey was so positively received. Odyssey is what people had wanted from 3d world.

Fallout Tactics (2001): By far the weakest game in the Fallout series, and overall just a boring and unfairly hard game in general... kinda not into it

Cyberpunk 2077. An alleged RPG that became an action game with RPG elements, released in a deplorable state, and then an anime comes out and suddenly it's an underappreciated gem? I don't care that one of my favorite YouTubers (The Sphere Hunter) is in it, I refuse to support such blatant falsehoods from developers. Gamers remain absolute morons yet again.

I was there when that shit first released, I got to not only see but experience that garbage and it was a threadbare, half constructed semi functioning entomology flash course.

When the first "megapatch" launched it was "oh look the games is so much better now" but only because it was drooling on the proverbial carpet instead of ruthlessly shitting itself on the furniture. That fucking anime launched and all of a sudden the game was good, why was it good? I dunno man the anime was pretty cool apparently but everyone who told me it was good now just said it was and that the anime was cool.

Shit ain't no massive RPG, shit is a garbage half baked action game, always was always will be (but hey, at least it now has actual cop chases in the game and it doesn't just spawn them round the corner lmao).

Call of Duty as a series: Behind all the polish and presentation, the games are just okay at best.

Fortnite: fuck this game and what Epic did to the industry

Worms: Not a bad game, but it's just... Not fun to me. I like Liero better.

Overwatch: Team Fortress for people that hate having fun. Yes more people hate it now because OW2 is dogshit, but I hated it before it was cool :glassesemoji:

At this point, Call of Duty should have died 6~4 years ago, there aren't much things where you can innovate at this point without making a completely different game

I feel like the majority of people who are fans of the Need For Speed franchise are in it for the tuners, the JDMs, the customization, the city streets.

All the exact opposite of what I think of when I think Need For Speed.

I'll openly tell you: the best NFS games all came out before the first NFS Underground. After that, it's just not been the same. 2003-2009 is the First NFS Dark Age, a.k.a. The Swift & the Serious: Part 1. Criterion's run with the franchise was cool, but it suffered from a severe identity crisis by bringing in too much Burnout. 2015 and onward has been the Second NFS Dark Age, The Swift & the Serious: Part 2, with the only exception being Hot Pursuit 2010 Remastered.

And I feel like I'm the only one out here that prefers the exotic supercars over JDM tuners.

Well, those kind of things will always happen when a franchise has to sell a new game every year

Someone tell me how Valorant is popular, explain that shit to me.

Game fucking sucks, some of the worst gunplay I have ever endured, most obnoxious exaggerated cookie cutter stereotype characters (cocky fast Sonic the Douchehog character, edgy evil assassin, edgy grim reaper motif, calm collected dickhead with a bow, soft caring pretty medic... Is it stereotype or archetype?)...

I guess I'm too fucking old for it.

Valorant is basically CSGO but worse, and for a different target audience (Tik Tok people)

Well, I guess this is as good of a time as any to come clean: I have never actually liked Wolfenstein as a franchise.

I played a bit of Wolfenstein 3D and Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Wolfenstein 2009, The New Order and The Old Blood to completion. None of them are bad games and they certainly had their moments, but unlike Doom, I do not have an urge to replay them: Wolfenstein 3D is extremely repetitive and frustrating, Return to Castle Wolfenstein's gameplay is just not very fun; Wolfenstein 2009 is nothing special all across the board and The New Order/The Old Blood, while okay, is a bit too tonally inconsistent for me to really enjoy.

What is weird is that I do have fond memories of playing Medal Honor: Allied Assault and the first two Call of Duty games. Go figure.

I'm in that weird camp where I think nothing else has come close to the perfection that was Wolfenstein 3D. Though I will echo the sentiment that RTCW was the last good Wolfenstein game, even though I think it starts phenomenal and ends in a trainwreck when the difficulty goes off the rails. TNO also has the same aforementioned fatal problem by its endgame but really I don't care for where MachineGames took the franchise and find its entries super overrated.

League of Legends.

It seems to be one of the most universally liked games among people I meet. I don't dislike it, but I don't see what's so special about it.

I strongly dislike League as a running gag among friends, but I've never actually played the game before. I'm scared that if I play it I'll end up actually enjoying it, so I just continue to hate it and not play it.

For me, it’s got to be apex legends. I don’t think it’s particularly bad, but I’m just not a fan of battle royales and this game feels painfully mid.

I would much rather play titanfall 2 especially now that the servers are fixed and some new game modes have been added.

Don't know a single thing about BG3 except that it was weirdly marketed around the prospect of letting players fuck a bear so I'll support any BG3 haters because that's really fucking gross

I dunno man that's kinda funny

I find it boring at best, frustrating at worst, but I am a big fan of the Bill Brown soundtrack.

It reminds me of Rich Ragsdale's Aliens Versus Predator soundtrack, which is one of my favourite video game soundtracks.

Yeah, it seems to be *the* worst Fallout game ever made.

Horizon Zero dawn: I don't know if everybody loves it, but media portrayed it as a gold classic of ps4 era.
Bought it on a sale to look what was it and couldn't pull through early game. Always drop it after going into bigger world.

Characters are uninspired, setting while having some interesting stuff is bland, Story is shit. Dialouges are cliche. Gameplay is bland. Open world is bland.

The game is one of the most generic and boring pieces of media i got my hands on in a decade. Its a gold standart of mid.

Nintendo games like Mario and Zelda.

Fundamentally they're good games, but they've been milked so much with slight innovations here and there that I'm well and truly apathetic to any releases.

I don't have much nostalgia for them, as I literally was playing Doom as a young child instead of Nintendo. Honestly I suspect much of the games are purchased by 30 to 40 year olds out of Nostalgia and probably just play a few hours.

i don't get out of my gaming comfort zone much, so i don't have many beloathed games that are beloved by the masses, and in most such cases i'm just indifferent to them, but doom 2016 sequel thats all im gonna say. basically the whole world at this point knows how i feel about that and its corruption of impact on indie gaming

ik what u mean actually, yeah. I can't begrudge anyone for putting in the work to make a game inspired by another game they loved. But it's a bit offputting to see how a lot of people seem to think games like Doom Eternal of all things = boomer shooter. It's evokes a similar emotion in me to people who reference Brutal Doom as if its like, the enhanced Doom experience.

It's a little over done right now, otherwise I love that indie FPS are taking ideas from Doom Eternal. It's the natural evolution of genres to get inspired from other games and integrate it to their own.

Classic games like Doom, Quake and Unreal had strafing, rocket jumping, super fast running speed etc. Those high speed mechanics helped define FPS until the more realistic games came out. So to me, it feels appropriate for new FPS to evolve with dashing and grappling hooks. But yes, they all seem to adopt it now.

I like to call these "rhythm shooters" because they have an ebb and flow you have to get in sync with to maximize efficiency. There's already rhythm games like Crypt of the Necrodancer, so.

Just because I might not care for how Doom Eternal approaches some aspects of it doesn't mean there won't be an indie FPS that does it better.

ive always contended that doom eternal has a lot more in common with 2d fighting games than with most first person shooters

@OliveTree It has more in common with character action games like Devil May Cry imo, the whole character is a weapon with extensions like abilities in addition to the weapons themselves.
