Ha, I already had a MAP01/E1M1 mashup already finished that I did for fun, but it sounds like you've got that taken care of. I'll keep an eye on this thread and see how things go, though.

"Finished" is definitely a bit of an exaggeration since I can think of some things that can be added to it, but here you go.

If anyone is willing to make a song for the map that combines the E2M1 and M11 maps, I have some ideas.

Spoiler: my idea is inspired by a beautiful song composed by the one and only @leejacksonaudio.
If he's interested in doing it, Jesus, I'd be the composer of my childhood writing songs for my adulthood. The circle of life would be complete.
However, I know I'm asking too much, so I'm open to anyone who speaks up.

If (tiny word, carries a lot of weight.)...

If you are willing to wait until I'm finished with another much larger project that has a deadline of March 1, 2024 (I may be done prior to that, I don't know), and if you're willing to accept a somewhat hamstrung version of my usual orchestration (I don't have my hardware synths or my KONTAKT samplers available), I might be able to take this on, if my health holds up.

What say you, We?

I was paralyzed for a long while staring at the screen reading your message, @leejacksonaudio.
If you sent me a one-note song, I'd already be happy. I'm very grateful for your art, which has permeated my entire life.
My idea is a calm version of the music from Doom's E2M1 map, with atmosphere and instruments from the music of Duke Nukem 3D's "Future Military Conquests".
I'll wait as long as it takes. Thank you very very much.

I think we could wait for much longer than that, if necessary. Even if the project doesn't pan out as we intend it to, you have our word that we will create our map with the utmost care and detail, something fitting of having an ost made by you. I still can't believe it.

The pleasure would be all mine. Now, I *would* appreciate some help in setting up a general MIDI system on my laptop. All it has is a Realtek audio system right now. Cakewalk, in their infinite wisdom, nerfed the MIDI support for Realtek subsystems with their last update, claiming "instability."  Any sort of subsystem driver and Soundfont setup would be appreciated. Can you point me that way?

I am no expert, and I think figureheads like @Jimmy@Doomkid or @Dragonfly (screw it, I'm doing it too) could help you better in setting that up. I asked this question recently in the doom editing forums, and they recommended me the music software Sekaiju, which is free and open source. In the same thread they directed me to a Dragonfly video guide for beginners who want to use the software for creating midis. Though I'm sure you are no beginner yourself, it might be a good guide to get familiarized with the program. I am putting the video down here for others who might be interested too, since this is the OST thread.

No, that's not what I need, sorry. I know how to do that. I have Cakewalk by Bandlab to do that for me. However, picture this: someone has ripped the MIDI subsystem out from under Cakewalk's feet. I now have no instruments, no MIDI ports, nothing. I need help in setting up a software MIDI subsystem complete with DLL drivers and SF2 soundfonts. Does anyone here have that level of knowledge?

I see. I'll have to step back a bit, I don't know how to do that. I am really not well versed in creating music or music software at all. I'm sure someone here has that knowledge and would be able to tell you how to do that much better than I currently could.

I'm not confident I do, no, but perhaps VirtualMIDISynth would be an appropriate solution for your needs?

I tried connecting VirtualMIDISynth to Cakewalk. Didnt worked. Also tried the MIDI Mapper, also didnt worked.

After looking about online it seems that people are jumping ship after Cakewalk's latest few updates have ruined MIDI support.

I've never used cakewalk so I have no experience to talk from outside of the searches I've done, but it sounds like you can't roll back either? If that's the case, and that's the way the software is headed, I'd look to try out different software too - though I know how tough unlearning what you know in favour of new interfaces etc can be. 😅
