Having never played Doom 2016, I was not in the beginning of Doom 2016. Therefore I, and by extension the Doom Slayer, was not present in the beginning of Doom 2016.

No, they did it b/c they wanted to gaze upon that sexy physique of his one last time before they entombed him for an eternity. That fat dumpy is too glorious.
