Scypek2 Posted October 16, 2023 What's my opinion? Certainly higher than a couple days ago now that 72% of Polish people turned up to vote in the election, and with pretty good results despite the relentless propaganda. 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
Gothic Box Posted October 16, 2023 Come to Iowa, we've got government corruption and an ethanol obsession that also extends to alcoholism, including our governor, who had her DUIs expunged in order to run for office. There's also the monolithic agricultural industry that bribes politicians and dumps pollutants (nitrates, manure, carcinogenic fertilizers, etc.) into the water supply, which in turn drains into the Mississippi river. Speaking of manure, most of that is produced by pigs, who outnumber humans 8 to 1. We're so into farming that we converted ~90% of our state's surface area for agricultural use, with native prairie being nearly nonexistent only 200 years after colonization! :))) According to our politicians none of that's a problem. What's really a problem is the existence of the scary scary gays and transgenders! god i hate it here 4 Quote Share this post Link to post

aloysiusfreeman Posted October 16, 2023 Yes, I can make say my opinion before this gets locked. Ever since becoming a parent I have dug into despising the US. Both my wife and I have well-paying jobs and its a constant struggle. The Expanded Child Tax Credit would help (but not fix the issue of childcare being so damn expensive), but then Joe Manchin killed it. Fuck him. I absolutely resent that this country makes parenting miserable when it shouldn't be - unless you have retired grandparents then you are tossed in the ringer of misery. And of course there's the general rants of the things the US can be a shitstain about, but I don't want to be the one that pushes this thread to be locked. As far as Minnesota, I'm at least proud that the state tries better than my home state of Wisconsin. But winter is coming soon and I am looking forward to waking up before the sun rises and breathing in frigid air - no sarcasm. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Doomkid Posted October 16, 2023 😭 Key points about FL: - Has always been fairly insane - Has nice beaches - Didn’t have Nazi flags flying on the way into Disney when I was there - Most every area seemed designed to put poverty and excess wealth right the fuck on top of eachother Key points about AU: - One of the friendliest cultures I’m aware of - Lacks the thrill of health problems (inevitable for all humans on this planet) leading directly to bankruptcy - Has way fucking nicer beaches than FL - The outback and most small towns within are old, rusty, beaten up, and the pubs pretty much always have a very warm and welcoming vibe. Absolute comfort zone I love both in terms of geography and natural beauty. Swamps, as well as arid deserts, are both genuinely gorgeous in my eyes. 8 Quote Share this post Link to post

SkeletronMK666 Posted October 16, 2023 the united states is in late stage capitalism and is scheming between the far left and the far right. the turbulent polarizing politics seem to be over culture wars about trans people, and also seem to be controlled opposition as the propagandized news stations, fox, and cnn, seem to stoke the fires of culture wars in America that distract us while the wealthy and powerful suck the finances dry of our country. - how does this affect me? well im scared one day that my rights as a bisexual will be striped away by far right politicians in some sort of infuriating culture war one day. I HATE modern day politics, it's just reactionary causing violence, bigotry, and vitriol, and nobody listens to each other! sorry if my post seems to be very polarizing but in genuinely scared for my nation. 3 Quote Share this post Link to post

The only thing I disagree with is the part about the far left. There is no far left in American politics. Where are the red flags with the hammers and sickles? They have literally no representation in Congress. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

As far as the country of America goes...... i think most of us Americans will agree, this country is fucked and not in a good way either. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

A respectable left wing (social democratic or democratic socialist) politician would be very electable if they could get their message across and instead of portraying themselves as left wing (which is synonymous with liberal here) present themselves as completely separate from the 2 party system. Disclaimer: I'm a democratic socialist. I oppose capitalism and support its peaceful replacement worldwide. I'm also LGBT. Yeah no, that is outright ahistorical at best. At every level the far-left runs and doesn't compromise, they get annihilated by the garden-variety Dems and Repubs because thats who people want leading the country. The Green Party ain't winning the nomination because their policies suck, not because others are keeping them down. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
