New Doom Player Here

Hello. Im a Doom Player that casually played doom since i was 7 years old and now im 18. I recently got back into doom and wanted to get into speedrunning and trying out new WADs. Any tips on speedrunning and any Doom WADs Recommendations will be appreciated

Most of the Compet-n accepted custom wads aren't too bad. Technically Final Doom is a custom wad, so those two wads count as well.

The others being Hell Revealed, Requiem, Memento Mori, Memento Mori II, The Classic Episode, Alien Vendetta and Scythe. Not a big fan of Hell Revealed personally, but it's a challenge wad.

Well Well WELL. This is my worst nightmare (after university). SOMEHOW completed it on "Im too young to die"(By Completion i mean i killed all the monsters). Going to sleep now and will try to work my way up the difficulties. I Guess nightmare would be impossible at my level but UV also seems really difficult as of now.Anyways, this WAD really has me excited for me as a doom player.(I hate the archviles but now i extremely loathe them)

there's a lot of wads in this sub forum, although you might have to scroll a bit to get past the community projects. you could also check some random wads on idgames.

there's also a lot of threads for speedrunning but the most basic techniques you'd need to know are probably sr50, glides, and void glides. the rest mostly comes down to skill.

For Speedrunning, I'm assuming you know DSDA-Doom already.

There's a wad where you can practice some common/known techniques here (which includes a youtube playlist with tutorials for the same wad in a txt :D).

 

And, as for wads recommendation, I felt in love with ...

It's a single map, almost 1k monsters, but truly a work of art. <3.

Also, Corruption Cards. Basically, you pick buffs/debuffs/gameplay changes, some of them permanent (you can make them all permanent), as you go through every map.

 

Although DSDA-Doom is my favorite port, these last two suggestions are only playable on GZDoom, as far as I know.

Doom 2 In Spain Only. It's a play on another community made megaWAD titled Doom 2 In Name Only, where it's a similar principle but with a Spanish spin on things.

Yes i know how to do SR50 and i am practicing it but how can i learn the other skills?

As you saw above a person reccommended me a WAD with 1k plus monsters.Aftet I finish that WAD ill start this WAD and ill let you know how it went.Thank you

I'm sure that you wouldn't be able to find Moon man anywhere around here. Please consider to always look something up yourself too beforehand, and you'll see why it's controversial.

good lord, these suggestions are...certainly something. people giving their own maps or a gzdoom map when op is saying that they wanna get into doom speedrunning, lol. or god forbid the compet-n wads agsgdhdgdf

 

op, first of all, i suggest trying to go through and play at least some of the stuff in this difficulty progression guide, as the difficulty of doom wads range from easy to absurdly difficult, and for a beginner it can be daunting trying to figure out which wads to play if you wanna improve. keep in mind, however, that it's not a definitive guide and is far from perfect; as you go along the list, you'll probably become more familiar with doom wads and be able to branch off on your own quite quickly

 

secondly, i highly recommend familiarizing yourself with how the movement works and how to do more advanced tricks, as that's a major part of doom speedrunning. stuff like sr50, glides, and wallrunning can all be vital in getting lower times. however, you'll obviously need to also get good at the game normally if you wanna properly utilize any of those tricks.

 

third, watching speedrunners play the game can help you pick up a lot of tricks and strategies. it honestly helped me get better at the game.

I Do Know how to perform tricks such as SR50 and rocket jumps due to which i can kind of do a speedrun upto Downtown in doom 2 but after that im not really familiar with the fastest routed.I watch Zero Masters Runs alot so i definetely learned from them.Other than that I have played Sunlust But it was kinda difficult so i decided to finally come on here.Thank you for your help.Ill let you know how it went!
