Aliens, I guess? Predator is a kick ass movie you know.

I would like to also add Plan 9 From Outer Space.

Meh, all three are done to death

They were on the way out by the time DOOM came out, let alone now 30 years later...

Take something good like Asimov, Lovecraft, Neuromancer, Brave new world, Andy Weir's stuff like project hail merry or The Martian, DUNE

Honestly I feel like all three of them have a lot of potential if done right and can be cheap garbage if done wrong. All three of them have their different strengths and weaknesses.

With zombies can lend itself well to post-apocalyptic or mid-apocalyptic stories.

With the alien premise you can go for a more sci-fi story.

With demons, if you're willing to stretch what you call a "Demon" you can have some really good horror settings.

Demons are the coolest. Limitless scenarios, ethereal monsters from Hell, dark energy and magic, can use both zombies (possessed) and aliens (Spider Mastermind and Arachnotron), chainsaws and shotguns. Groovy.

I find zombie stuff to be immensely tired and overdone, plus they require either mystical woo-woo (for the more literally undead kind) or questionable interpretations of science (most "mind controlling" diseases/parasites affect things like insects, who have simpler brains and in some cases, like ants, are already adapted to be responsive to "mind control" like signals.  The only one I can think of that can affect mammals, toxoplasmosis, already does affect humans, and just makes their personalities a bit weird, nothing like a zombie).  So definitely not them.

Demons can be cool, but literal demons are wholly reliant on woo-woo so work best in fantasy stuff or something like Doom where you're just not supposed to think too hard about it, and not-literal demons are just extra-scary aliens.

That leaves aliens, whose unexpected visiting is somewhere in the realm of unlikely-but-possible.  I think they work best when they're not just used as comfortable "bad guys" in a war story, but presented as having some other, possibly inscrutable, agenda beyond warring with us, and so far advanced beyond us (as anything with convenient interstellar travel would be, at least technologically) that they see us as primitive barbarians at best, or animals/not even registering as sapient at worst.

The coolest scenario is none of those, the best one is being a footsoldier of an intergalactic fascist regime with on the nose WW2 undertones, meet aliens, kill aliens.

God made man in his image, let's remind the galaxy of that.

(actually it's about fucking aliens, but I can't say that or the commissar will shoot me)

The only good zombie games I can name are the (older) call of duty games and left 4 dead games

I think you aren't giving the genre/theme enough credit. I don't even like zombie stuff and I can name some zombie games that range from decent to stone cold classic:

-Resident Evil

-Zombies Ate My Neighbours

-Dead Rising

-Dying Light

-House of the Dead

-Stubbs the Zombie

-Plants vs Zombies

-etc. x100

Fair but the 2 that I listed where the only I could name off the top of my head, huge win for including pvz in your list

I actually lean more towards the idea of aliens on Earth helping us advance our species and become something greater.

But, that's just me.

Damn dude you couldn't think of Resident Evil? It's not even like it's just a legacy series us oldheads bang on about - there was a game released in the series this year!

Adding to your list mainly because over-hating of zombie fiction is getting tiring:

-Project Zomboid

-They are Billions

-The Last of Us

-Zombi-U

-Days Gone (It's super underrated)

-Dead Space (I think it kinda counts)

-Siren

-Nightmare of Decay

-Night at the Gates of Hell

-Telltale's The Walking Dead

Days Gone

Did you happen to play it on PC? I was thinking about getting it but I don't know if my GTX 1060 and i7-3770 can handle it (even though I've yet to come across anything I wanted to play that didn't run well even in 2023 - just finished Lies of P very stable at 50-60fps on highest settings 1080p).

I played it on PC. I have a 1070 and i7-8700 and it ran fine. As long as you don't try to push above 1080p you shouldn't have any issues.

Zombies are very rigidly defined as brainless undead humans functioning solely based on their instinct (their hunger for human flesh).

Demons are inherently evil beings, who solely exist to do evil of all kind. That's why they're demons. If demons had the capacity to do good things, they would be humams instead of demons. The opposite of demons are angels.

Aliens are the big unknown entity. They could be evil, they could be good. They could be disgusting ( like in the Alien movie) or they could be gorgeous looking. Highly intelligent sentient beings or just an extraterrestrial celluloid organism.

For humans to even have contact with Aliens or for there to be an alien invasion in the first place, the aliens themselves have to be already highly intelligent and aware beings that are extremely advanced.

For beings to be in such a state they have to come from a stable civilization. It's not realistic to assume that they are evil for evils sake because that would make them idiots.

As advanced beings they have to be aware of good and evil.

I will say, zombie infections are very overdone and oversaturated. But playing through the Resident Evil series and seeing that series takes and spins on the concept has won me over hard.

The Resident Evil 4 ganados are so iconic.

yeah sure demons/aliens/zombies on earth but have you ever heard of a group of humans leaving earth in the wake of a dimensional tunneling accident, evolving into basically aliens during their 10000 years of space travel, and landing on an alien planet only to discover they traveled forwards in space but backwards in time and their dimensional accident happened here too, and now they team up with the planet's locals and human stragglers from the dimensional breach to fight the zombie demon aliens also coming from the dimensional breach. subscribe for more shatterdawn: development hell edition facts
