Cool wad, I enjoyed.

 

With the enemy placement, architecture, and feel of the level, it's very reminiscent of Doom '93 (as you mentioned in the txt description). The layout is somewhat basic, but nothing "bad." I beat the level on less than 20 health, and I definitely feel as if there aren't enough health items, but maybe that's just me and my playing style.

Played on DOOM2.EXE

 

I played several maps of yours and I can say I really appreciate your mapping style. As a mapper myself, it's often very tempting to create very complex layouts, and much harder to execute your ideas in a simple way.

 

Flesh Halls resembles to an extremly purified version of Doom's E2M6 with some Doom II influences. As the previous map I played from you (Cantonment), Flesh Halls felt like a pure breeze to visit. However, regarding the usage of E2M6's music I'd have preferred something a little more tricky and tortuous, and therefore more uncomfortable, in the same way as the iwad map does. While Doom 1 is not renowned for its high difficulty in Ultra-Violence, I found "Flesh Halls" much simpler.

 

I think you should add a few unpredicatbles traps here and there, to keep the player on his toes at all times. and darken certain areas: the flesh area, for example, is much too bright. The enemies populating it present no danger. Last comment, I missed the SSG in my game and so it took me quite a while to kill the hell nobles. Maybe alternate the place of the chaingun and the SSG. I see the chaingun as more of an optional weapon, whereas the SSG helps reduce the grind considerably.

 

In any case, it's still a fun map to play, and I encourage you on your mapping journey.

Okay, I just finished the map. And it was good. The last part with the barons of hell was a bit hard but not impossible. Good stuff ! ;)

 

By the way, when you're looking closely to the part of the maps you can avoid some traps such as :

the fake exit button.

 

I found all of the secrets too. They can be found by analyzing correctly the details of the map. That reminds me the classic "Doom II Hell on Earth" levels. Nicely done !

Hello!

Had a fun time with this map :) No real complaints at all. Just a straight forward, good experience.

 

The design really evoked Ultimate Doom maps, which I quite liked. Gave it that kind of classic feel as if it belonged in the original game. Really well done.

 

Simple map, simple combat, sticking with what works. Good stuff. 

 

9/10 for this one :) gold star xD
