Ruins of Kalnik - why the name?

So the SoD's MAP29 is called Ruins of Kalnik. This is very odd to me because Kalnik is a mountain in Croatia that yes, does have ruins on top.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kalnik_(mountain)

So my question is - why did Joshy (can't find his username on DW) call this map like this? Apparently he's from Australia so it's possible his parents or grandparents were emigres (a lot of Croatians went to Australia or NZ). Does anybody here know? Now I have not been there but satellite view shows a significant lack of lava lakes, marble or red rock.

Another example is the E3M2 of  2002: A Doom Odyssey which is hillariously named Caves of Bosnia.

Mt. Erebus, a snow-covered volcano in real life, is the name of a hellish lava-filled crater in DOOM's third episode with no snow anywhere in sight. So, um, I guess nothing's in a name really.

Yeah but Mt Erebus is a well-known (relatively) mountain and Kalnik is some nondescript hill (not even a mountain, less than 1000 m) in norther Croatia.

BRB naming my next map "Badamar Shosesi, Baku, Azerbaijan". Just to mess with people like you continue this unique naming trend, heh.

In seriousness, the Caves of Bosnia thing always confused me. But hey, I'm not the mapper, right? There could be a multitude of reasons behind the name that I'm not privy to. It's certainly more memorable than "Military Base" for the 9001st time or whatever.

Might as well, hey @pcorf why did you name your E3M6 of 2002 ADO Caves of Bosnia? Why Bosnia in particular? Did you go for a trip there?

I fully support this naming convention.

I've been to bosnian caves and I can sadly say they are not as red as they are portrayed in the level. Immersion ruined.

It's probably just a cool name...

Yeah I was about to say it's probably just cool. I mean the word "Kalnik" sounds mysterious and maybe a little sinister, coming from an American that isn't from the area and is now just hearing about it lol.

I think it's best if I don't give an answer as to where the name came from, because doing so will quell everyone's imagination! However for what it's worth, I do not have any Croatian heritage.

Best answer. Not everything needs a backstory; not all curiosities should be sated and you don't need those 100% secrets when the map is over just fucking go to the next level you fool. Thank you. :)

I'd lie if I said I was satisfied with this answer but it is an official answer. Oh well, I'll respect your privacy.
