I do have the original CS 1.6 and CS Source from some Valve bundle, and obviously the new one is free. I've tried them out, and they all have the same maps and the same guns. Isn't the point of a new game to have, at the bare minimum, new maps and new guns? I don't play CS either - but I'm pretty sure each game adds new maps, and in the case of CS:GO they've updated it with more maps over the years. Even Source has 2 new maps compared to the original; and that game was mostly focused on the aesthetic improvement, which IMO for a game series like CS is an acceptable reason for a sequel. ROTT certainly needed a remaster, and that has been a great edition. Regarding BGS games.. Oblivion is crying out for a remaster and they can have my money when/if that gets released. I'd say Quake 1 and 2 absolutely did need them, both never got a proper rerelease and relied on ancient stuff that barely works today, and in Quake's case, it finally got a proper console port. Quake 2 had the X360 release and the RTX release, but one was console locked and the other not everyone can use The best excuse for a remaster for me, is when the old version isnt available or isnt very compatible with modern tech. Oblivion and Fallout 3 are great examples of things that need remasters/rereleases, Oblivion has lots of technical issues on PC now, and the controller support is utterly broken, as they never backported the PS360 controller support to it, and Fallout 3 was very crippled by GFWL and is a bitch to get running well. Some companies will only remaster console versions though, and leave the PC version to rot. On 10/23/2023 at 2:50 AM, Gez said: To be fair I would love if every game was like Terraria. I worked for them for a while, and I have no idea how they generate so MUCH money with their one game to pull off the endless updates. The main staff were always getting fancy new stuff the whole time I was there and claiming 'business expenses' and im just like 'how can a game thats dirt cheap be making this much forever?' (the game being amazingly fun obviously helps :p) 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

It's been a while since originally posted, but this bothers me. Have you recently played unmodded Oblivion/Morrowind? Both are hideous as sin (Oblivion more so than Morrowind, MW has the advantage of being charming early 3D but Oblivion... It's just ugly) and a technical disaster that is beyond comprehension, to get Morrowind to play nice you essentially have to rebuild the entire game's code from scratch using third party programs and Oblivion is so fucked 6 ways from Sunday that residual pieces of the overdone AI will occasionally hijack the entire game and cause the thing to detonate (originally, Oblivion had a fairly impressive AI system that was gutted out as it would constantly destroy the game, pieces of it still remain such as a baker having bread in his inventory will hard crash as he eats it at a pub during certain hours). Both need a remaster more than Skyrim ever did, if not on a visual but a quality of life and general fixes kind of way (unless it's Oblivion, genuinely aged the ugliest of any game I can think of). 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

If you want, you can still configure it to look and feel exactly like the vanilla game, (save for losing the demo compatibility.) This isn't entirely true. Even after setting it up for maximum vanilla accuracy/compatibility you still have fundamental changes to gameplay such as RNG being entirely different.
