I love DT, but aside from A Dramatic Turn of Events I've not found any of the Mangini albums particularly attention-grabbing.  The Astonishing I found to actively boring in fact.  So I'm quietly optimistic this will trigger something of a return to form.

I heard about when Mike Portnoy was hired as a temporary drummer for avenged sevenfold after the death of the rev, but I say welcome back to dream theater!

Sadly what DT really needs is Kevin Moore, not Portnoy. The problem is in the songwriting.

I was at Beacon Theater in NYC last year when Labrie first called out Portnoy mid show. I didn't think it would lead to this.

 

Oh well, give it a chance. I was starting to warm up to the corniness of the Mangini era.

Not just to get laid, but also to burglarize people he scored with afterwards, stealing money, credit cards, phones, etc. A particularly bizarre case of criminal impersonation.

I wanna know (and I guess we'll find out soon enough) whether ol' Mangini was "asked" to leave to make room for Portnoy, so they can do the epic "THE RETURN OF THE CLASSIC LINEUP!!!!!!!!!" thing.  

I thought that last album they did (A View From The Top Of The World) was wicked, their best one since Dramatic Turn Of Events, and was psyched for what they were gonna do next.  I just hope they'll tell Portnoy he's not allowed to spit while performing anymore, that shit's nasty
