Any recs for midi composition and learning to make doom music?

I'm interested in knowing more about this type of thing. Are there good tutorials or recommendations for good tools? I've used only BoscaCeoil before to have some fun, but nothing I've used in any map yet.

+1 to Sekaiju -- it's the most user-friendly freeware midi editor I've stumbled across, and a bunch of midi musicians 'round these parts (including myself) use it.
