THE ULTIMATE GUIDE TO CLASSIC DOOM [REVISION V]

Who would've thought that 30 years would go by in such a short time? It won't be long until the series' 30th Anniversary comes up, but I couldn't wait to release this and show it to everybody else.

I wanted to, in some way, pay tribute to the game in a special way that would allow more people to know the origins of one of the best video game franchises of all time. I could've made a WAD with a few levels as a commemoration, but I still think I'm not skilled enough for that. So instead, I made a guide that tries to reach out to as many people as possible and not only teaches them on how to play the game, but also teaches them about the series' story.

The Classic Doom games have always been my favorite not only because of how enjoyable they are, but also because of the incredible work the community does to keep them alive with WADs, Mods, videos, songs... Without the community's support to the Classic branch of the franchise, making this guide wouldn't have been possible.

The purpose of this guide is to try and introduce new players to Classic Doom with explanations about what the game has, the basic mechanics, how to play it, and some extras like fun facts or tips to get better at the game. It doesn't have to be necessarily for new players, since everybody can read it and enjoy it, even if nothing about this is surprisingly new. My job here is to show the World how exciting Doom can be and everything you can do with it and the amazing content you can find about it, despite the game's age.

The current version of the guide is Revision V, and there have been 3 changes made to it prior to its release in this post. The current Revision features new fonts and styling and added functionality. If there are any changes or errors you would like to point out so I can fix them, please comment it or send me an email at ultradoomofficial@gmail.com, which is my account for everything Doom.

I hope that this guide does its job at helping people introduce themselves into this part of the game and/or make experienced players reminisce about some parts of it, even if it's reading just for fun. I have made this guide in hopes that everyone can read it and understand it to get a better knowledge about the games that surround Classic Doom. I know this may not be the first or last guide published here, but I wanted to make my own and help people find out about this franchise with my own words.

I'd really love to see the sources used for this.

Almost everything is out of facts that I learned about through content like videos, web pages, etc, so I listed everything off the top of my head, and if there was anything that I vaguely knew about or had to add more context to, I'd support myself through the Doom Wiki or Wikipedia. I'm thinking of making a fourth revision which adds a little more content and a few fixes.

It shows, because the very first fact you listed off as Fun Facts isn't correct:

Quote

FUN FACT: DOOM is NOT the very first FPS game to ever be created by id Software. It was Catacomb 3D, which later influenced Wolfenstein 3D.

This isn't even true, as Hovertank 3D came before Catacomb 3D. Can be found on the "List of id Software games" Wikipedia article (which does list all of its sources as well)

This is why I'm curious what your sources are. I'm not trying to "well achshully" you, but there's a lot in here that either is speculative or incorrect information.

That's what the revisions are for. Thank you for spotting it. If there's anything else that you notice is incorrect, please tell me and I'll correct it.
