Is doing a doom recording disliked by some?

If you mean making a demo, if you use dsda-doom and use the -dsdademo parameter you can still save and load (but not quicksave/quickload). People will need dsda-doom to view your demo, and it might not be compatible with all future dsda versions, but if you're just testing someone's level or whatever and you want to show them how you played it, it's a good option.

Otherwise you can get some video capture software like OBS and just record yourself playing and upload it to youtube, and save and load as much as you want then.

edit: But I guess to answer your question sometimes I prefer playing with more casual settings using other ports (Crispy or Nugget) so sometimes I prefer playing without making a demo, when it's not playtesting something.

I'm not sure what's there to dislike. If you don't want to do one because of your own preferences, just don't do it. It's as simple as that.

The context of the question is a bit odd.

  • If you're making a video to be a DoomTuber then good luck. Its a niche category and requires good presentation skills to catch my attention as a regular viewer.
  • If you're making a feedback video then by all means.
  • If you're showing off your own map or mod then by all means. Advertising is always helpful even in promoting a free product.
