Doom Mall Map 1

Recommended Posts

Hello.

Can't  reach the red door. The switch after the blue door open the door that open the north area, but didn't rise the sector that leads to red door.
Also, if fall on the east area (with BFG) after rise the sector (sector tag 30), can't go back (and are missing textures).

BTW, nice musics. It reminds me of when I spent afternoons at arcades in the 90s. Good times...

Edit. Using GZDoom 4.11.0.

So there's two switches in the food court that rise the floor up and down. You have to switch one of them twice if that makes sense.

This was great! The music was nice and it was fun going through the different rooms. Everything seemed really streamlined.

More to come! Thanks!

With an excellent elevator system the map is not labyrinthine which allows you to concentrate on the combat. I almost never let go of my fire button in the entire game.

This is a very good sign of the quality of the map!

Just finished Map1 -- lots of fun!  Will give Map2 a try for sure.  Thanks for making these!

BTW -- why are the filesizes so large, 120MB for Map1 and 200+ MB for Map2?

The file size is large because of the music. There's hours of music for 2 levels LOL. I might have to tweak that moving forward. I'm aware of that.

Usually music is stored in MIDI files, which are way more efficient and would save a ton of file size. I feel like you could do that and take it down from 300+ megabytes for the whole thing to less than 500 kilobytes.

By the way, instead of making new replies, you should probably just edit the post.

Edit: Also, these are some great maps!

How do you edit the post? I'll have to tweak the music file size when I start working on Map 3.

Great video! Thanks for the play! I'm currently taking a short break on Map 4 due to creativity fatigue. Right now I'm learning how to make classic Tomb Raider levels and been enjoying that. I have a decent concept going for Map 4 but I feel like I need a break or else it'll start to get sloppy LOL

I had a lot of fun playing this.  Obviously there are plenty of flaws and it's simple design, but there's something satisfying about running around to new areas, jamming out to the upbeat music.  I would describe the music as "fun and pointless" in that it's not something I ever would've expected to enjoy in a Doom wad but....here we are.  It reminds me of playing people's wads back when Doom was fun and new and you could just pick up any map and "just play" and have a nice time without it having to be either (a) trying not to get lost or (b) dodging circulating rockets from endless waves of revenants/arch-viles, etc.  Yes sir, old-style Doom wads are right up my alley.  Only gripe I had on Mall 1 was that it was too long.  The floor-raise gimmick works well enough, but after like 12 times I was a little bored.  But I still played straight through the whole thing.

I took a little break from this WAD but I'm starting to work on it again. I'm going to be updating the music on each level because I don't own the rights to the music. AI music is getting really good though, I'm really able to make the levels feel like mall levels now because I can pretty much generate any type of music, including music with singing in it LOL

I really liked this. It was really damn fun!
Good job man. The music was awesome and just running around killing things was amazing.

There were a few clipping enemies here and there and the map itself looked pretty empty from a visual standpoint in a few places but I dont think it matters here that much LOL.
By the way, you should probably edit the original post with the new links so people have an easier time finding them.
Also, AI music is not really a good way to go in my opinion. If you really want to replace the music you can try to look into tracker music from sites like modarchive.
