mhmh Posted November 29, 2023 Yes, but play the original if at all possible, not the BFG edition. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
DoomGuy999 Posted March 12 Doom 3 is an OK-ish game, i find it challenging, and it's kind of annoying when the map is all dark. You should get it for yourself, it's your opinion whether you like it or not. It's menu theme is SOLID FIRE 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
JoeyKelastiof Posted March 13 (edited) I really really enjoyed Doom III. The dark and scary atmosphere and gameplay really makes you feel like a survivor with the odds against you. I thought the progression and story were well made! There's a lot of details that progressively make you understand the story (Audio logs, written logs etc) you can talk to npcs too. The game is genuinely scary and the gameplay and story are good. If I remember correctly the only criticism it got was because it wasn't the same style / game type as the original doom games, meaning it was leaning towards a horror game and wasn't as fast paced as OG doom; but to be fair I never understood why that was supposed to be an issue, because Doom III is successful at what it does. The slow pace was something I also didn't like too much when I first played it, and I made myself a mod to increase player speed (the great moddability of Doom 3 is another plus!). But the slower pace grew on me and today I use the sprint function more frequently during combat (mapping sprint on right mouse button helped a lot). Regarding the horror aspect: I perceived original Doom as a horror game as well when I first played it in the 1990s. Compared to Wolf 3D it had a much darker and serious atmosphere. AmethystViper Posted March 16 Doom 3 is a different beast compared to its predecessors but I still find it enjoyable. The atmosphere and tense combat is what got me hooked when I was younger on the original Xbox and still enjoy it today. On PC, you do have some options on how you want to go about playing Doom 3, as discussed on this thread, but between the original 2004 release or the BFG Edition/2019 Panic Button version, I recommend the former since the latter made a bunch of balance changes that ruins the intentions of looking for PDA codes to loot storage cabinets or supply caches, not to mention its version of Resurrection of Evil got the raw end of the stick with a bunch of cut content. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
CRS Posted May 29 I've just started Doom 3 again last weekend, it's my favourite game of all time. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
